we are in the same boat,empty nest and no dog strange feeling.my husband and i have not been on one night out that we werent thinkin about getting home to our dogs.not one vacation that we didnt have to get a dogsitter in over 23 years (and i didnt mind a bit)!looking for another yellow lab pup now but i havent found one up to my specs maybe in the mean time might have to go on a small vacation just see what it feels like and it sounds like you should too .so sorry for your loss.
