310 uses longer reds?

310 uses longer reds?
I just saw on a different sight that the reds for the 310 are a bit longer to make up for the different riser they are using.
Im not to sure in hip to this call here..
I mean ,,I don't understand why they went to a straight riser instead of a shorter rail.
I love the fact that most all Excalibur parts interchange. well they used to anyway

Re: 310 uses longer reds?
Looking at pictures of the 330 it seems that if the main frame was made any shorter they would have to redesign the quiver bracket that attaches to it. It looks pretty tight between the stock and the quiver bracket and riser bolts.

Re: 310 uses longer reds?
Several reasons. Yes quiver bracket probably would have to be redesigned. An 18" arrow would stick past the stirrup, which most people do not like. And I've also heard that in this particular design (extra short) it was more efficient energy/speed than just chopping off the rail. They are a pretty nifty bow if you aren't caught up on speed. Going to be hard to choose whether to carry the 310 or 330 into the woods this fall

What kind of drop, say at 30yrds are you seeing on the 310 vs the 330? Still on the fence on which way to go.
Re: 310 uses longer reds?
The difference would be about three inches. I had an Ibex as my first crossbow, and it was very sweet at 305 FPS. If the 330 is legal in your state, I would get that one, the 355 is a dream to cock, etc. The 330 would be my Vortex on a smaller frame, just a great all around crossbow with plenty of thump!
Good luck on the decision, and no matter which you get, it will perform well!

Re: 310 uses longer reds?
I haven't tested the drop on the 310 yet. I have the first crosshair at 25yd, next one at 35tyd. I know with a 387gr arrow the 330 sighted in at 25yd has about 2" drop at 30 so it would be more with the 310. With the same arrow I'm shooting 286fps with the 310. But the 310 is a dream to cock back. Its not a bow you buy for speed but its the easiest to cock recurve crossbow I've ever had including the vixen 11, little quieter than the 330 but not a drastic difference. I dropped in a TT trigger and right now I'm starting to swing toward liking the 310 more. I do think most people would chose the 330 for the extra speed but if you want something easy to cock and don't need the speed the 310 is pretty nice IMO

Thanks,I have shot a brown vixen since "09" so I am not worried about speed, just looking for something smooth shooting and tree stand friendly.

Pinshooter, is that 387 grains of total arrow weight? Seems like it should be faster than 286.

Re: 310 uses longer reds?
Yes thats total arrow weight. I don't think these bows are going to be doing 310fps. I test shot my 330 over the weekend through the same chrono and with the same arrow and boo string it did 319fps so I know the chrono is right. Its very easy to cock and fun to shoot. Its not a bow you want to buy for speed though.

Re: 310 uses longer reds?
Ok...got around to comparing the 330 and 310 on arrow drop. 310 shooting factory string and GT2 arrow at 286fps, 330 with a boo string, GT2 arrow at 319fps and here are the results. Both bows sighted in at 25ydwolv1001 wrote:What kind of drop, say at 30yrds are you seeing on the 310 vs the 330? Still on the fence on which way to go.
310: (0-25yd) (+1 7/8"-20yd) (-2 7/16"-30yd)
330: (0-25yd) (+ 1.5"-20yd) (-1 7/8"-30yd)
