OT - falling apart / old age
Haven't been posting much lately as my outdoor activities have really been slowed down by my health. Semi-retired last year and forced into close to full time retirement this year by a combination of health problems. Luckily my wife found a part-time job with a very good chance of going to full time in the future and good retirement & health benefits even with part-time employment. Her health insurance plus my VA medical benefits means (hopefully) I can get my problems diagnosed & corrected (or at least treated) in the near future (near future in government time ).
So far I've had ultrasounds, MRIs, X-rays, and am scheduled for CAT scans this month and we've been able to eliminate the obvious causes for various ailments. For example, my hip pain (can't walk much over 100 yards before it becomes so painful I have to rest) isn't arthritis or joint related. One doctor thought it might be blood flow related (clogged arteries), but my new doctor disagrees and thinks it is my lower spine causing the problem, so I go to see the spine specialists later this month.
My abdominal pain (really sharp pain after I eat) isn't my gall bladder, so I get to have a CAT scan next week since the ultrasound ruled out the gall bladder.
I haven't even told them about my elbow pain (new ailment in my left elbow) yet, but it might cause problems with my crossbow shooting so it's going to be on the list as soon as I go back to the doctor.
Not begging for sympathy, but thought I'd explain why I've been so scarce here on the forum.
To be honest I've been kind of avoiding even thinking about hunting this fall since I may still be pretty limited in my mobility. I just can't seem to get too worked up about getting ready for what may turn out to be a slow season. Thankfully I can still borrow the landowner's tractor(s) to get any deer I manage to kill out of the woods, and I've got a couple stands within a few hundred yards of where I park, so some hunting is still a very good possibility.
Now I've got to get my son talked into field dressing & dragging them for me.
On the brighter side, I did get motivated enough to see if I could still turn a deer call on the lathe this morning. I found I can make one without too much discomfort (with a few short breaks thrown in), so hopefully I can get a few made up before deer season gets here.
Last year I was getting a lot of demand for the laminates.
It may be a very limited production this year, but I do have enough material on hand to make one or two of each pattern, and plan on making up a few over the next few weeks. I know some forum members wanted to get one this fall, so I'll post in the "Trading Post" as they become available. At least it will get me out from in front of the TV, and it may even improve my outlook on the upcoming deer season.

Sorry to hear about your physical issues. Getting old is not fun, I know. I hope that you can get enough relief and healing so you can do some hunting.
If there is anything I can do to help, let me know.

Sorry to hear of your health problems. We have had our share lately, and found out wife's thyroid is jumbling things up. Get the blood work done! Good luck, and if you got a call you want to sell, I'll take another, they are the best!

Welcome to the last half of our lives Mike. It may not be a lot of fun but it's better than the alternative.

A friend of mine had similar issues, turned out he had Lymes disease from a tick bite. He had heavy antibiotic doses and is a lot better now. They have a simple blood test for it now, you may want to mention it to your doctor. Either way, get well soon, hunting season is coming.
