vari-zone speed ring

Post by joel0711 »

Sighted on at 20 yards with my varizone.Moved to 40 (farthest I can shoot in my back yard). Shooting 2.5 inches high with speed ring set all the way to 350.
Arrow is 365 grains,100gr.point, shooting a equinox with flemmish dyna flite string.
Should I re-set zero using the turrents or be happy that it's close as it is at 40 yds? I will check at 50 yds next trip to our camp where 50 yards is possible.
Thought of adding weight to bring it down but I'm right on with my lighted nocks and hate to change too much. Any opinion???

I would check my scope mount screws and scope ring screws then the stock screws . It should sight in with out any trouble . You may have a bad scope ! Better to know now instead of ending day .

I love the V-zones. They are great hunting scopes. However, not so great for target work. The error you describe could be due to whatever you are using for an 'aim' point.

Those markers are pretty big. I don't mean to belittle your abilities, but why not play w/ it a bit?

How's it shooting at 30 yds?

I have couple of the Varizones, once you get past 30 yds. You best jus put the top pt of chevron on yer target dot. 2.5" ain't no big thing, if'en you shoot that far jus hold it a touch low.

I can add this to help you decide your next move maybe. I am shooting a 405 g. arrow including the 100g point,,,Flemish string, and very little scope ring left on my varizone scope with that weight arrow. Very little when sighting in at 40 yds myself. I was considering myself if I ran out of ring, to sight it in at 40 using all the adjustments available and seeing how low I shot at 20 and 30 of which couldn't be much as my next move..but I had enough ring adjustment to make everything work perfectly for me. I was considering lightening my arrow setup, but backed off that cause of the little ring adjustment I had left to play with. I know this doesn't help you much, but maybe gives you something to think about. Are you using the stock rings that comes with the scope is another thought? And, check your brace height. Where is the string setting,,too high,,or too low of brace height?

Try this. Use your twenty yard chevron at the top dot of a target at least 36" tall at 40 yards. Your arrows will be low! Now adjust the speed dial until the 20 yard chevron is on that top dot, and the 40 yard chevron is on them arrows you just shot. The speed rings are nothing more than magnification dials, and they do not truly represent your actual speed.

Let us know if that works!

it also could be the arrow your that is at issue here.
When first sighting I used the same arrow for each and every shot.
At first Sightin at the 20yds use the same vane down for every shoot. Once sighted in I then take numerous repeat shots with each vane in the down position. With the same arrow. You will most likely find one vane position is best for repeatability.
I label each vane on arrow example:
Arrow (1) 1a, 1b, 1c, Arrow (2) 2a, 2b, 2c, etc etc....
(Use black marker)

Then note which arrow / vane position arrow gives the best repeatability on 20 yard bullseye

Then proceed to 50yd sightin as describle in Bill Ts video using the arrow with the best repeatability results from the vane position test. Then make adjustment as required which in my case was a slight fine tune to the speed ring adjustment.
