Bolt or Arrow?

Post by DryFire »

Okay, I'd like to know the difference between a Bolt and an Arrow, and why? I'm a newb, but doing lots of reading and learning fast.
Thanks.

I grew up learning that an arrow is shot from a bow and a nut gets screwed on a bolt so very easy imo to see the difference :)

The way I understand it is arrows have fletching and bolts have none.

My state of Michigan uses three words for them.

Are there any restrictions on the velocity at which crossbows can shoot bolts?
No, a previous restriction on the velocity has been removed as of the 2010 hunting seasons. Although, when hunting deer, bear, elk and turkey, crossbow hunters must use only arrows, bolts, and quarrels with a broadhead hunting type of point not less than 7/8 of an inch wide with a minimum of 14 inches in length.

Bet you can shoot a full size 28-30 inch arrow out of your crossbow. Cut down to 18 or 20" its the same arrow. You can take the BB's out of a 410 shell and stick a fletched feathered arrow in a single breakdown 410 shotgun and shoot a arrow out of it too. What do yu call it?
