Moultrie D40 trail cam problem

Post by ninepointer »

I just got this older Moultrie D40. IR sensor, laser and set-up functions all work, but the camera won't take pics in either auto or manual modes. No pics, no flash, nothing. I don't think its an SD card issue, as the camera won't register any pictures or events in its internal memory either. Is this camera pooched?

I wish they still made that model, try flipping the little white pin up on the card., it may be in the lock mode if not I don't know, good luck.

Some times when our cams go weird like that

If it has one ,we change the internal battery
one of those round silver ones

Not saying for sure but worth a try.

OK, some progress. I've discovered that it works in the light, even a lit room, as long as there's light hitting the light sensor. But in the dark it doesn't register any pics (in neither auto or manual shutter) and there's no flash. Been through all the settings.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. SD cards are fine. Internal battery seems to be OK because the cam does not lose its settings if I remove the D-cells.

I bought 2 of them. One works just fine.

Even if the bad one only takes day time pics it still a plus.

waited 20 minutes to talk to a rep. they will offer a replacement d65 for like 40$. there is a re-set according to them but i cant get it to re-set. i did clean all the lenses with a q-tip and alcohol. i did pull the memory card and cleared out all the pics on the internal memory. seems to be working good now.im gonna set it up tonite in the yard to see if it works any better at night. let me know if you find out how to do a hard re-set.
