your best way to remove a nock.....

Post by gendoc »

for installing a lighted type....
I've done several different techniques but, whats yall's ?
this might be informative for some of the new folks and even the ol'timers 8)

hot water, break with pliers, on and on...
but my favorite is a 1/8" steel rod
thru the forward insert and throw like a dart until nock gives up...

any other idea's............

What kind of nocks? For plastic nocks I use a pair of pliers with a piece of rubber sheet material in the jaws to keep from boogering up the nock, give it a very slight twist as you pull and they come right out. I have a pair of the Lumenok extinguishers a.k.a. 10-point arrow pullers, they can't grip hard enough to remove nocks but work good for pulling arrows and turning off lumenoks. One of these days I'll get some Danny Miller pullers.

Think the General means the aluminum rear nocks.

I have had success with the hot water & 1/8" SS welding rod. Remove the field point or BH and insert the rod all the way through the arrow and after heating the nock with the hot water just hold the arrow and tap down on the SS rod & the nock comes off.

If it's a threaded aluminum nock, I thread in a field point and heat it with a torch. Using vice-grips, I clamp on the field point and a few twists later...presto. I've never had a problem with this method.

Most plastics rear nocks are not glue in, just pull them out with pliers lightly

I understand, removing plastic glued plastic nocks from aluminums with heat will probably distort them. Most carbon plastic rears are press fit

A simple and effective tool for removing inserts and aluminum nocks that are threaded is a soldering iron . Place a section of all thread or a cut off bolt the same thread as the insert or nock you are trying to remove were the irons tip was . let it get hot before you use it to keep excessive heat down . screw it in after it is up to temp and as soon as you feel the glue let go pull the insert or nock out .
