My own extensive research re : Whitetail deer vision !
I have done extensive field research and have been collecting this specific data for a long time ( Between the months of October 1983 and December 2013 ) > here are my findings .
1. Whitetail Buck and Doe are unable to see misc colored Aluminum and Carbon arrows launched off various models of Excalibur Crossbows between speeds of approx 250fps-380fps .
2. Although I admit this information is not particularly scientific , I also noticed that Whitetail deer apparently cannot see Silver Colored Toyota Tacoma’s ?
3. I feel I have a sufficient amount of test data to publish my findings , but will continue to field test / collect data into 2014 to bolster my claims .
4. I will continue to post further data / updates as the information becomes available … Thank You … and have fun collecting your own data related to this subject .

I'll have to agree with their inability to see silver. Had one walk out in front of my silver Ford Ranger last week at 10:00AM, but luckily I avoided hitting her.
Red may be a problem for them, too. My wife got one with her red Ford Focus, but luckily only a few hairs on the headlight and no damage.

Quite right RJ. I appreciate you sending your findings to me and after further review, I have found that not only is silver an issue, but it extends into grey as well.

The last week of my so called holiday, it rained a lot and when it decided to not rain, it SNOWED ...... yes we had snow this year already and this was in Ontario
Just to add a little to RJ's data ...... deer seem to avoid showing themselves to me when I am hunting them.

Yep .. Study line item # 3 was from awhile ago on my 2010 Tacoma . It happened approx 500 yards from my place so I gathered the shrapnel and headed home to report to the Police .
OPP have to investigate every vehicle / animal collision to make sure it wasn’t just and impaired driver claiming animal interference … The Officer that wrote up my report told me that next time I didn’t have to provide so much evidence ! > The Whitetail blood and debris left in the rad compartment was enough proof of animal/vehicle collision .

Kevin - just make sure it's something big and sturdy! Hate to see you sitting in the front seat wearing a deer!Doe Master wrote:I think my next vehicle will not be grey or silver .
Thanks for the research Rick .
Great thread R.J. Appreciate the research you put into studying deer vision and then sharing your findings.

Around my parts we either have suicidal deer or deer that like to play the we dare you game with each other when it comes to roads and people driving.
It also points out exactly how "dumb" they are in regards to that kind of stuff and yet how "brilliant" they can become when hunting season comes around.
Which brings up an Odd question... I wonder how many hunters have hit a deer while on their way back home from killing one during hunting and the dead deer they shot is still in the back of their vehicle at the time of them hitting the one on the road with their vehicle?
