another one bites the dust
another one bites the dust
second nanny so far. shot with 355 and boltcutter head. blew through both shoulders. really disappointed with bc blood trail. shot thunderheads for 40 years with compound but they don't like the 355. always shoot about six inches to the right. any suggestions would be welcomed. the bc is very accurate but the cutting surface is so small. both deer have gone over a hundred yards, and it ain't flat ground I'm hunting!
Re: another one bites the dust
congrats on the doe!!!
im thinking that if you blew through both shoulders your shot placement was too far forward thus the poor blood trail.
always amazes me that deer can go so far with that much damage..
I had no issues with the boltcutters but I went to the Slick Trick magnums and never looked back. strong ,accurate, and great cutting ..

still got both lungs. just not much blood. a spot here and there until I finally found the deer after going down and up a gorge. the deer last Wednesday was also a task to trail. entry/exit size is just lacking. may I send pics to your email because I don't know how to load them on this forum?

Congrats! I use the Rocket Hammerheads 2" cut 3 blade and it looks like a murder scene on my kills.I use 2 bands on the heads to keep them closed out of my 355.

Re: another one bites the dust
I agree that the shot is a little forward. Did the same thing on a doe with a Montec and no blood at all (it was raining so maybe some but hard to tell). Thunderheads do leave a big hole but they are hard to get to fly right. You may consider the Slick Trick Magnum. Broadside behind the leg and middle body seems to work great for me. Two like that last year and blood started within 6 feet of the hit and was really good all the way to the deer. But I am on the ground...rolltide wrote:still got both lungs. just not much blood. a spot here and there until I finally found the deer after going down and up a gorge. the deer last Wednesday was also a task to trail. entry/exit size is just lacking. may I send pics to your email because I don't know how to load them on this forum?

Congrats on your 2 deer that's awesome. I switched to Slick Tricks after using mechanicals for years with a lot of kills you'll love the Slick Tricks they'll leave a good blood trail and are very accurate I've killed a lot of deer with the Slick Trick Mags but just switched to the bigger cut Grizztrick 2's they fly just as good and are 1 1\4 4 blade and cut a huge hole. Good luck and have fun putting them deer down

Re: another one bites the dust
Congrats on your deer! Yes, I must say that I too feel the shot was a little far forward (maybe a little high too?). Anyhoo. . .these things happen. I am with the rest of the Slick Trick gang. Where I hunt at times there are hogs that pass through. . .they're not very welcome critters on the properties. A large hog, especially a fatty one, doesn't always bleed so well and blood trails can be tough. I'm not saying that the Slick Tricks are the "cure all" of the archery world (pretty damn close though - LOL), but they fly in-line with most field points, they punch nice holes and they stat together. . .just plane tough! ! ! I shoot the 125gr. Viper Tricks and they've done me well. Good luck to you.
