hello..new to forum..new matrix 310 on order

Post by jason mc »

New guy here with crossbow fever. Friend of mine bought a excal axiom last year. I target shot it some and used it hunting a couple of times last year and to be honest I didnt care for it...thought it was big, heavy and just didnt feel right in the stand. It was very accurat though...that was a plus. That being said I have been into traditional archery for a long time and it was going to be hard to put my trusty recurve down. My friend with the axiom has been a traditional shooter as well...I was shocked when he came in with a nasty xbow....well how quickly did I change my tune. This year I wanted to give the xbow hunting a good honest try...I went cheap. bought a cheap one from rural king. went home got it tweeked in and thought it shot fine...still do. took some time but I got it shooing very well. even took a doe with it. 20yrd shot, both lung, ran 30-40yrds and she is in the freezer...well I was sold...but I knew right then I had (wanted) to upgrade. After searching and reading here I decided on the matrix 310...ordered the bare bow kit from Wyvern Creations thursday! Now im so excited I cant sleep.. I had a few questions on BH but I found it but any additional advise or info is very welcomed.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new bow. My additional advice would be to buy a stringing aid. This is really a must have and will allow you to shorten the string as it stretches and settles as well as anything else you need to do to work on your bow. My personal broadhead choice is #1-Toxic Broadheads #2-Slick Trick Broadheads. Happy shooting. :D

I forgot all about a string aid! Is it a good idea to unstring it on the off season?
also is there a certian way I should twist my xbow string or does it matter?

No need to unstring it. I put a small mark on the side of my rail where my string needs to sit for the correct brace height and I also leave my cocking aid attached on the string 'ready to load'. This is a double bonus because I can't misplace it and if the string settles it can't dig into the bumpers. You should check with Danny Miller about his stringing aid. They're awesome....or with Boo on this forum if you're in the Ontario neck of the woods. Danny Miller is an Excalibur guru that will help you tremendously. He's in Ohio at 740-483 2312 (Horizontal Archery)

Most people leave them strung up. You want to twist the string counterclockwise to keep the serving tight.

In the off season, just leave the rope cocker hooked onto the string to keep it from digging into the stops, if you have them. When the time comes to bust it out to shoot, just lower it, and make your adjustments for brace height, and you're good to go!

Welcome, and congrats on you purchase.
I also bought a Matrix 310 a month ago and just love it.
I will be leaving in the morning for 9 days of hunting.
Its bucks only in our area this year and the rut is just getting under way
so hopefully I can break my new M 310 in properly.
Get an extra string and a stringing aid, and keep an eye on your brace height

My 310 shipped today! Im bouncing around the house all excited that it has shipped. my wife is having a good time making fun of me and keeps calling my brand new crossbow a Toy...a toy! I told her it is a "percision shooting machine" and not a toy.
