I know it's not Rudolf, but I'm not sure if it's one-eighth of Santa's ride, or if it's "olive" the other reindeer.

This one is a reindeer in a pen at Chena Village Alaska...
The diffference in a caribou and reindeer?
Reindeer know how to fly.
Actually they are one and the same animal only reindeer are domesticated.
I was surprised to see how much of the reindeer that they ate up there in Alaska. Every restaurant we went into had "reindeer" of some sort on the menu..
Quite a rack, eh?
They are trying to expand reindeer meat to the lower 48 states.

Woody,
I thought reindeer were old world (Asaia, Europe) and caribou are a new new world (North American) species. There are different races of caribou, some big, some really small. Reindeer are very docile and lend themselves to being penned and easily handled. No so caribou. As ornery as an ex wife. Back in the 1920s I think it was, the Canadian gov't tried to drive a herd of reindeer from Scandanavia to the Canadian arctic so they could be raised and farmed for meat by the inuit. It didn't work out so well. It took 2 years and most died (ie. were eaten) on route. Just my recollection, and I don't have my field guides on hand.
