O/T - Sporting Ammunition & the Firefighter

Post by Big58cal »

I found cool video on the SAAMI (Sporting Arms & Ammunition Manufacturers Institute) site. It's titled "Sporting Ammunition and the Firefighter". The video shows what happens to ammo when it's fired outside of a firearm, dropped from 65 feet, ran over and grinded by a bulldozer, and set on fire.

It's a pretty cool video. It's a little long (25 minutes) and a little boring at times, but still cool to watch. It's good knowledge to have. I've often wondered what would happen to ammo during a fire. Now I know. If you can, this info should be shared with your local fire departments, as I'm sure most firefighters (especially small town volunteer firefighters) probably don't know what happens to ammo during a fire.

Below is the address to the SAAMI site. Just copy it and past into the address bar of another browser tab. The video is down at the bottom of the main page. Click on the video and then maximize it to full screen mode (lower right corner) to get the full effect.

FIREFIGHTERS!
I knew firefighters were the reason for the ammo shortage!

good video, I initially thought they were nuts, looking over the edge of the platform as they dropped the cases from that height, but clearly there is little risk. & I especially liked the plywood windshield on the dozer :D
