Moose hunting season is 1 week away. as we begin to pack our bags in anticipation of heading north one has to wonder.. is Ivan going to was out our trip like the hurricain last year did? Leaving wed. night for northern Ontario.. will keep you posted.

I know what you mean, although my hunt had prehaps a better ending. 1st week of October 2002, I went up around Parry Sound. I had the remnants of a hurricane provide me company for the first five days of my bear hunt. High winds and rain, rain, rain. I wan't sure if my tent would be standing when I came back from my daily outings. In the end I toughed it out, and with a lot of luck and with a lot of work (that's a story unto itself), I managed to get my first bear. Lesson learned: You'll never know unless you're out there. My "What Are The Chances" bear is a very cherished hunt.
I've never hunted moose, but for deer, I just love bad wet weather. I've taken most of my deer very early in the evening (first 1/2 hr in the stand) or even walking to the stand in hard rain. The key is location. I used to hunt a relatively small, but thick pine growth during these days. It can be pouring rain and the deer flock to these sheltered spots like flies to S@&T.
The last buck I got from those pines was on the way to my stand. With the rain and the wind I don't think he even heard me. I walked right past him at 10 yards
and something turned me around. When I did there he was looking at me with a bewildered look. Kinda like "What are you doing out in this mess 
. He even let me take my scope covers off. He never made a step. Dad came and helped me drag him back to camp and I then returned to my stand. An hour later I saw a doe working her way toward me. She came right in under my stand and I dropped her to fill the last tag.
