Matrix 380 and 355 draw questions.

Post by Asking Bowman5 »

I have one last question before I buy an Excalibur. will a younger archer like myself, be able to draw the m380 with the rope cocking aid? im about 5/6, 5/7 and im strong. also will Excalibur keep the 355 in production in years to come? if I go with the 355 I don't want it to be discontinued a month or so after I buy it. that's all, thanks. :D

I think either the 355 or 380 will work fine, and I'm sure that you will be able to get service for a long, long, time.. They stock pile the parts, after all just look to the warranty its life time !! Take the plunge SMILE.........

Yes on the draw! My crystal ball in the shop for service currently, I didn't see it coming either!
Just funnin. I would say as long as sales are there, they will make them. The 380 package is much better equipped, and that makes it the better value, dollar for dollar. Shoot heavier arrows, 400 grains, and up, it will last a long time!
Good luck.

You can shorten the cocking rope so that you don't have to pull so high to get cocked. I have mine set so that I have to pull the string back/up about 3" before I can get the second hook on the string.

I think you'll be fine. Remember: the cocking aid has a 2:1 pulley on each side of the rail. That means that for a 260 lb draw weight (380), each arm is only pulling 65 lbs. Also, it ain't all about height because everone's body ratios are different, no matter what the scientific/engineer types say about "average". Example: I was 5'11" before I started shrinking with age, but only have a 30" inseam. My wife is 5'4" and ALSO has a 30" inseam!

i would have to say that my legs are relatively short for my height, but a shorter person could have the same (or longer) legs than me, so even if their arms were shorter than mine, that just means that they would have to bend over and reach further to get the cocking aid on, but may not actually have to pull their hands up any higher than me to get it cocked. 8)

Something else that people rarely consider is that there's less load on the muscles, bones and joints of a shorter arm (or back, leg, etc.) than a longer arm for equal weight moved, just like a 50 pound fish has more leverage on a fisherman using a ten foot rod compared to a five footer. The fisherman is the fulcrum, just like your shoulders and elbows (and the lower back!!!!) in the drawing process. With the ten foot rod, the fish is able to put twice as much force on the fisherman than if he/she had the five foot rod!

I am 5' 8"
I liked how the 355 is more compact, lighter too
The numbers are there

More important was the feel of the 355, for me anyway

I'm 5' 5" and 67 years old and I have a matrix 380. I am not a target shooter at least not that much. I sight it in before the season maybe 30 shots using all my arrows to make sure each one flies straight.
I do not have a problem with the draw weight , I am in decent shape ( round is a shape also), you should have no trouble with either 355 or 380.
Good luck .
