Making my own bolts
Wanting to put together my own bolts. Wanting to know where's a good place to buy bare shafts and all components to put together. Thanks
Re: Making my own bolts
It is very gratifying to make your own, and not too hard either. Do you know what brand you want use, and do you have the tools to make them up? South Shore Archery, Wyverns, and i think Danny Miller will sell shafts cut to your needs. Bow Hunter's Superstore is a great place to get tools, but you cannot get Black Eagles from them if that is the brand you decide to use.

Give it a try JP, it's fun building them and very rewarding when you have success. My hunting buddy and I both got kills this year with arrows I built as a first-timer, it's a great feeling.JPjunkie wrote:Ive been thinking about for a long time I think its time to try myself I think it would be awful gratifying to shoot an animal with your own bolts and arrows

Re: Making my own bolts
If you order raw shafts from Black Eagle, they only come 20" or 22". They will not cut them shorter.
JP, you would love making them, and you have everyone here to help you out too.

- Arizona-Rim Easy Fletch Bolt (assuming you're using blazers)
- G5 or Luminok arrow squaring tool
- Flex Fletch 'Zing' fletching primer
- high quality cyanoacrylate based epoxy (I use G5 Blue Glue and am very impressed )
- acetone or 99% isopropyl alcohol for cleaning your shafts
You're only paranoid if everyone isn't out to get you.

That's a good list! If you order Black Eagle shafts from SSAS, or Wyverns, they will cut them, not sure of the cost. There are some innovative saws made by some members here that are worth looking at, if you need to cut to custom length. Kegbelly made one that would survive a group of kids stress testing it like a new toy!

While not a necessity, an arrow saw is a great tool. If you have everything else, then consider an arrow saw. They aren't really expensive, you can really justify one if you are shooting a bunch of different bows with different arrow lengths. I have crossbows, long bows, recurve bows and compound bows. So I put my arrow saw to good use. Here is one I made (I'll start a new thread on on to make a DIY arrow saw).
It looks like an Apple Arrow Saw.........but there are absolutely no Apple parts into it:

Re: Making my own bolts
I bought one because I do a lot of custom for vertical, and crossbow needs. $110. Delivered new from EBay.
