Hoss,
I know that I am a little out of step (no pun intended) with all of the modern technological advances in stuff, but I have always liked the LL Bean hunting shoes. They have been around for a hundred years, but I don't think they can be beat. They are light weight, waterproof and comfortable. You can get them insulated or not. And Bean will stand behind their product just like Excalibur does. My personal preference is for the 6" boot. But you can get them from slip on shoes up to over the calf models. If it aint broke don't fix it. :D

Stalking Boot.

Post by BOB VANDRISH »

Another two cents worth!
I have used all types of hunting boots over fourty years of hunting, with Herman's being the predominant boot.
I just switched to a Merrell hiking boot for hunting two years ago,and now have two pair, one insulated and one that isn't.
These boots have great ankle supports, and I am going to tell you that I can hike all day,and never have the tired sore ankle feeling that I used to have at the end of the day.
Worth a try!!

Thanks for the help Gents...after some research I found what i was lookin for....

FYI....Info resource for all...Image
Wolverine 8" Supprescent Antelope Boots
When you're trying to stalk close to wary game, you don't want a heavyweight boot hindering your movements. Engineered for the archer or serious stalker, these boots are lighter than some athletic shoes and outfitted with the advantages that can make your hunts successful. The 1,000-denier Cordura uppers are completely camouflaged in Mossy Oak Break-Up and include a waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX Supprescent lining to conceal you from that trophy's sense of smell as well as his sight. And because stalking requires many hours on your feet, the boot's removable full-cushion insole atop a camouflage-wrapped, compression-molded EVA midsole supports every inch of your foot and ensures you're ready to follow that big one over the next hilltop. The Wolverine Tmax rubber lug outsole ensures exceptional traction so muddy hillsides, rocky creek beds or steep inclines don't put an end to a long, hard stalk.
Men's sizes: 8-13 medium and wide widths. Half sizes to 12.
all that and only 18 ounces each..I got mine a size bigger for warmer socks...and if needed I have another insulated pair for colder weather..
sweet baby....time is comin to do some stalkin..my favorite way to down a deer...try it youll never go back..I do like setting in a tree, however once you sneek up on a deer and then down him and take him home..your hooked..

One of the most important things to consider is "ankle support". Make sure that boot (not shoe" lends support to your ankle. In your case I want think that would be a "MUST".

Try Irish Setter boots. I have a pair and they are great. I purchased mine in LaBaron Sports.

I would suggest boots with 1000g of thinsulate. Keeps the feet nice and toasty.

They're not LL Bean boots. You can't get them here except by mail and when it comes to boots I would rather try them on personally than mail order.

The CanTire boots are just brand names and even in SW Ontario they have CanTire stores. Just a suggestion for boots.

L.L. Bean products can only be purchased directily from the company. You can find their website at www.llbean.com They will send you a catalog, then another catalog, and another etc. once you get on their list. It's good expensive stuff, but it's kind of like planting zuchinnis. Once you do, you will get more than you can use.

I checked on the others LL bean,Merrel, danner. (to heavy) Rockys who I like because of there stout heal counter...and a few others however in my case I need something that will be light enough to stalk a long day and not wear me out...plus these cordura boots have plenty of ankle support if needed..Its not like when you stalk you hurry or run through the woods..stalkin is slow and easy goin..that wolverine is very light 18 ounces per boot man thats like a feather compared to the others, great support and when you put your foot down you can feel ( better than other big lugged boots) the ground better...those above mentioned boots are good for the purpose they serve but not for me (stalking)..I really wanted something more like a moccasin feel with snake protection ..after researching them all...for the most part IMHO.I found it.
I do own some cordura rockys as well. Stout boot reasonably priced and light for a big boot.great heal support and ankle...rockys are my second choice they are built well.....I dont like any leather boots for hunting the leather holds foot odors and even has an odor of its own, they dont breath well at all......NOW saying that I will tell you that opens a big smelly ?....and odor is our worst enemy...I suck at stayin odor free in oklahoma where early bow season its not uncommon to sweat some...so I play the wind...pick a stand close...I launch my boat at the lake and cruise to a hard to get spot and hunt as close to shore as I can...
anyway thanks to all for the good advise......good huntin to ya comin up!
