Welcome drool.. I have the 405 and can't be happier if I tried. My vote is the 380 and don't look back. But all are great bows for sure. Good thing is you can't me a bad decision here.

Best of luck

Over the pond here in the UK we don't hunt, just shoot 3ds
I started with a jaguar then got a second hand point blanc ,upgraded to a vixen 2
Ibex got an old wolverine and bought enough bits an pieces off of the guys on the forum to keep me going for ages.
I currently shoot a shortened matrix that give s about 150lb draw weight with an 8 1/2" draw length all set in a custom wood stock made by our very own Aging crossbow era.
Been a lot of fun since I joined this forum a few years back.......

Welcome! I was in the same situation as you. When I gave up my wheeled crossbow I knew the ONLY bow I wanted was an Excalibur. For 3 years I researched and chose the Matrix 380. My Dear wife bought it for me. That said, I am the same age as Bubba. I limit myself from 20 to 25 shoots per practice session. It is same hole scary accurate @ 20-25 yds. If I had a re-do I would have chosen the M 355 just to get more practice time.

Happy Trails

For the money, the 380 is the best value like said. I love the 355, had a Vortex, and an Ibex, both were excellent as well. Any one you get will be great, and the new Grizzly would be an outstanding, easy cocking model for a great price too.
Welcome aboard, and good luck.

Thank you all for the replies and the warm welcome. After reading your suggestions, I'm thinking I should go up to at least the 355 but still need to go shoot a few. I have to wait a few months to make sure my job situation is stable. It just wouldn't be responsible with a wife and two little ones until that's a little more secure. Who knows what Excalibur may be cooking up between now and then.
