Climbing Steps or Stacking STicks
My son and his buddy just got themselves a Gorilla tree stands, however they are not the climbing type and need some kind of steps to install the stands into the tree. Has anyone ever used the stacking sticks or steps that Gorilla or any other manufacture makes? Are thsy any good and if so where would I get them? Any idea as to their cost. I live outside the GTA(Toronto ) area but wouldn't mind the drive to LeBaron's etc. Thanks.
Benny,
My experience is limited to the less expensive RiversEdge sticks, but I love 'em! They aren't the most lightweight or compact model, but they do a great job, and I leave them in place for days at a time. I have the stand chained and padlocked, so I just loop the chain around the top section of the sticks, too. Not 100% theft proof, but it might deter an impulsive thief. If they ever do get stolen at least I'm not out half a week's wages

If they plan on hunting the same area/spot. Go with a 2 section of TV tower. 1 ,6 in leg bolt 3 feet from top and you have 18-20 feet of easy steps.
The easyest way to make this all work is cut the bottom of the tower so you have 3 legs(pipes) cut one shorter, for the tree side(roots can stop the bottom section from going into the ground).
Have pc of rope with you and put the Tower up the tree, set it and give it a jump on to sink it in the ground at the bottom. Rap the rope around about 6-8 feet off the ground and tie tight. Then Climb to the top and leg bolt it to the tree at the 3rd step from the top. You can hang our stand with in the top 3 steps and have lots to hang on too. The stand should be around the 18 feet. If you move, move the tower, cheepest and easyest way for a tree stand steps...BT

Benny, I just bought a set of "Non-Typical Rapid Rails" They are quick and easy to put up and take down. So I leave my stands in the tree and just take the rails to where I'm hunting. Their only drawback is that they are a bit pricey @ US$100. I got mine at BassPro, but I've seen them at Cabela's too. Dan

I can't help you with the climbing sticks, but I can tell you I just spent 2hrs. hanging off the side of a Black Oak putting in 16 screw- in steps. Never again. My arms and legs are aching like the old man I am. I just bought an extra hang on stand, and thought I'd get by cheap and use those steps I had bought years ago. This weekend I'll buy some sort of climbing sticks. Lesson learned.
