Night for a pig sit and again 9-24
Temps a little warm
Hogs coming in right after midnight
With wind going to hit a stand where xbow is a little to big
So going to take the Matthews out
It is looking a little sad
It has been hanging for a month only going to the range
Will update later tonight or in the morning
If its in God's will pictures

Re: Night for a pig sit
Forgive me for possibly asking a stupid question. We butcher our own pigs, smoke and cure, make sausage and our own scrapple. Oh, and eat bacon on darn near everything, it's the duct tape of food.
My point and question is, do you eat these wild hogs or are they rough or nasty to eat since they're wild?

Is it good to eat? Does it taste just like regular pork?kd8jgu wrote:I clean butcher and eat them.

Re: Night for a pig sit
I think it is much better than domestic pork. Has a different taste. The sows are almost sweet tasting. And i would think much healthier too
Re: Night for a pig sit
Oh man, what I wouldn't give to be able to hunt them regularly. Although I hear they're massively destructive.Buddyshort wrote:I think it is much better than domestic pork. Has a different taste. The sows are almost sweet tasting. And i would think much healthier too

Re: Night for a pig sit
My experience.... Large older boars are strong! Younger, smaller sows eat just like pork chops fr the grocery store. We butcher sows and drag boars off. Can't put boars in truck by myself, so I've got a chain to drag them with. You can drag one a mile on a caliche road and it won't have any hair left on that side , but you won't have a hole in the hide either!TheBig1 wrote:Is it good to eat? Re: Night for a pig sit
Thought's on Wild hog meat? I've hunted, trapped and caught with dog's many of em, Breed and crossed breed some with domestic stock, and in my opinion, Wild hog can be delicious. If taken while hunting. I have found most 200 pounds and under either a sow or boar, can be real good table fare. Without any preparation needed most of the time. But 150 pound's and under is where the prime meat is to found. Yum, and i don't eat a whole lot of domestic pork, but those sweet young wild hog's are a different story. Not intended to type ya'll's ear's off. But hog hunting for me here in the south, would be like you northern boy's hunting cougar or bear's. When on the ground with em stalking and still hunting or with dogs Busting through brush and palmetto's shoulder high, an'it nothing down here more exciting and heart thumping. Any how 200 pound and less...Look out freezer....
