Re: Treestand safety line
You are correct Rick . I want to enjoy your pictures for many years to come .
We all suffer from a lapse of reason . I had a person once fall out of one of my stands . Thank goodness it was one that was only 7 feet up in a cedar . He thought because he could grab the bottom of the platform he didn`t need no harness . He shot a deer and tried to cock his bow in the stand . He lost his balance and cleared off every limb on the way down on the tree beside him . He passed out to wake up to black darkness . He made his way out and went to the hospital . If I remember right he had a couple cracked ribs and a crack or something like that to his back as well .
7 feet or 27 feet we humans don`t do crash landings well .
Please for your family and friends sake . Take safety precautions .

Re: Treestand safety line
I think im getting old. It took me 7 days to remember where this thread was & 1 hour (plus a bathroom break) to make a $%?& prusik knot and it the wrong type of rope.
Ok, I knew that going in but I wanted to practise

Re: Treestand safety line
Just my opinion but I think safety lines should be included with all new stands. I was going to get a couple this year to use for my stands but I've decided that its time for me to stay out of the trees! Had to give up vertical bows last year and after climbing into trees for the last couple of weeks I've decided its time to stay on the ground as I feel like I've already fell out of a tree as I type this. I enjoy hunting from the ground more anyway. Someone also mentioned having an easily accessible knife, this is an absolute necessity as I've had to cut my strap to free myself so that I could slide down the tree after both sections of my climber came loose when I stepped too far back on the foot platform to reposition my seat. A rough and slow painful trip down but other than a skinned up stomach, chest and arms I walked away to hunt another day. I say use every available safety devise when in a tree including a self rescue descent line.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Re: Treestand safety line
I have a knife meant for cutting seatbelts, like the type for cutting open milk bags that I keep tucked into my full body harness in case of a fall. I figure if the knife only serves one purpose then im not AS likely to use it somewhere else and not put it back into my harness. I just need to get to the point of wearing a harness more often. Like more than once or twice a year
Im on my way to home depot to buy some rope tonight. Last year a buddy almost took a 30' drop out of one of our built wooden highrises. If I rig up a safety line for each fixed stand I will feel much better. Providing I can pull off tying that blasted prusik knot a few more times! I think I got it now: Gotta pull on the loop that loops... the rope.
If ya cant tie knots, just tie lots!!

Here ya go:Riflemanz wrote:HSS makes a climbing rope too!

I have decided to try the Black Diamond Alpine rock climbing harness this year in place of a full vest style harness. Already grabbed the HSS Safety Strap and looking at these tree life lines if our club decides on a few hang-ons for next year....
Re: Treestand safety line
I use these with my Summit Viper climbing tree stand.
Lot's easier to use than the flat strap included with the body harness.

In case I fall I don't want to have to swing around in the tree until help comes. Don't know how anyone would get me down anyway.
