I'm a newbie on this site, in fact this is my first post. I just switched over from Elite Archery compound bows. I used them for years, had several models, worked on them etc. I just grew tired of constantly tinkering with them, tuning, swapping limbs, etc. I just sold my last three and am getting rid of everything needed to keep them running. I decided to go to crossbows for the simplicity and Excalibur seemed the way to go as anything with a wheel on it was an instant no go after compounds. I bought a Vixen for my wife and have a 380 Blackout on the way. I decided to post here as this thread made me aware of the concerns with Pine Mountain and their "black" 380 Matrix listings. Unfortunately, I already had one of them on the way so was prepared with what to look for thanks to this thread. Just as has already been stated, the entire bow was painted black, even the tops of the rails. I wasn't able to see if there was another color or camo under it but there were several blemishes in the finish. The finish was textured on top of that. One of the limb assembly mount holes was pushed in slightly and the threads were bare metal unlike the second hole, not sure what that was all about. The bottom line was that it was not as pictured and one had to be pretty observant to catch the listing description as "black" and a SKU number as 3800blk. The bow does seem to be a genuine Excalibur offering however and it's anyone's guess as to what the story is behind these.
I must give some kudos to Pine Mountain as they responded immediately to my "not as described" eBay filing. The bow is on it's way back and Pine Mountain did agree to refund payment including shipping costs. They also sent a prepaid return label. They have near perfect feedback and this is probably one of the reasons why. I do however think they are somewhat misleading in the description which sort of goes along with his reply when he said, "most guys keep these because they are happy with a 380 at the price they get them for" I had tracked them for a while and they are going for around $800. I got mine for $782 including shipping of $20. Anyway, sorry for being so windy just wanted to share.
The good news is that I found a genuine 380 Matrix Nightmare for $850 with $25 shipping here if anyone is interested:

DeathMerchant, welcome aboard... and a good deal on that 380 Blackout you found..You made a great choice in choosing Excalibur... and glad the post helped... :)

Just a heads up. In case you are not aware, you need a bow stringer as well to adjust the brace height of the bow..

If you have any questions about your new bow, feel free to fire away... no pun intended....Well.... maybe a little

I have purchased 2 Excaliburs from Pine Mountain with absolutely no problems. The products were exactly as advertised and shipped quickly with no damage. These are stand up guys as far as I am concerned. I would not hesitate to do business with these folks.

...welcome aboard....

...I have come across the Pine Archery posting on eBay a few different times and feel the listing is clearly deceptive for the uninformed as they call it the "blackout" but then say its "black."....I believe that this could be rectified by clearly indicating what had been done to the bow in the the description so the consumer would know....but then maybe they don't want people to know...I would hate to think that there is more going on than what is presented!

....I also believe that something like this clearly is not what Excalibur should be allowing or sanctioning....

....In any event a great post and it appears you are now taken care of which really is all that matters...

....if your intent is to stick around DeathMerchant and become a contributor to this forum, why not complete your registration so we know where you hail from....it also helps us to help you!

To Vixenmaster, you are absolutely correct, there is no such thing as a 380 Nightmare. I have been looking at the 335 Micro bows before I decided upon the 380, I got the two confused. Of course it was the 380 Blackout that I was referring to but thanks for the correction.
Thanks Grassy Knoll for the advice on brace height adjustment. I did buy the factory stringer and am familiar with twisting strings from my Elite bow tuning days.
I did give kudos to Pine Mountain because of the way that they handled the quick return of the 380 Black Bow and I also mentioned how their excellent customer response was probably one of the reasons they have such great feedback on eBay. It is strange however why they would post a photo of the 380 Blackout for a special run 380 Black. Their response to my very same question was "because they didn't have a stock photo of the black version". Why not take one out of the box, assemble it and take one?? Why not mention that this was a special run by Excalibur??
Thanks Anthony, I will update some of my profile. I am on the central coast of Oregon. I do intend to stick around as there are always good things to share and learn on these forums. I was a moderator on the Elite Archery forum for a while so I'm no stranger to how they work but must admit very little knowledge about crossbows. They seem to be a little less complicated than binary cam compounds but I'm sure that's not the case. I hope to learn as I go.
Thanks to all for your welcome

There are a lot of non liberals that live in the state, especially east of the Cascades. The entire state is controlled politically by the I-5 corridor and Willamette Valley. Washington State is the same way. There have been a couple of attempts to legalize crossbows in certain situations like disabled hunters or during the rifle season but the traditional/compound hunter associations turn out in force against the proposals with the usual arguments. It will happen someday as crossbows become more and more popular. I would venture to say that nationwide, there are a lot more game animals running around with arrows sticking out of them than there are crossbow bolts.

Thanks a lot for this post @ grassyknoll!!!
I am a Norwegian bowhunter now completely adopting to crossbows after visits to some familymembers in Visalia, Cali. Tried shooting a crossbow there, and was completely stunned at the efficiency and accuracy of these weapons. Now, Norway is not the best place to come from regarding laws on crossbows, but i will make sure we get there eventually, hehe.
So, i've done my resesarch, and my choice fell upon the excalibur matrix. The 380 seemes like a winner to me, and then after winning the internett, i found the cheapest packages sold to come from Pine Mountains on Ebay.
Now, when i see something to good to be true, it usually is. The seller is spitting out these "blackouts" with a 12 hour cyclus, selling them for about $700.
I am a(whats the word for it?) "Feinsmecker", and appreciate good quality products, like Excalibur is. If i were to receive a spraypainted bow, it would totally destroy my conception of Excalibur as a brand. I cant believe they can let him vandalize a quality product in their name???
Imagine this beeing done by BMW or Mercedes. A dealer buying their cars without paintjob, then spraypainting them and selling them on at a low cost?
BMW's rep would be broken.
So thanks grassyknoll, for posting this so im now aware that these "counterfits" is not made so by excalibur. Im now going to get me a 380 blackout with a proper finish, and pay what it costs!

I also was ready to pull the trigger on a Pine Mt. M 380 Black, but after reading the posts on here and other forums I decided that it was best not to.
Clearly, the item pictured on e-bay is a Excalibur Matrix 380 Blackout, but what the guys are posting pictures of what they received isn't the same bow. Also different name, and different number. Glad I didn't get one, but other "rookies" like myself can be easily deceived by what they are showing on e-bay, that's the bow I would expect to receive----as pictured!
I then decided to purchase a camo one from GM, 15% off and free shipping. Paid a little more, but am happy with the purchase.
Can't see why they just don't use a picture of the bow that you would be receiving, from what it seems most guys are actually somewhat happy with them, probably because of price, and it looks like they carry the full Excalibur warranty.
Just a > "hope others read these posts first", and Thank You to the others that posted about this. Glad I found out about this before my purchase!

Great looking bow. It sure does not appear to be a rattle can spray paint job to me. Looks like I would expect a flat black bow from Excalibur to look like.

Agreed! But there is a world of difference between the paintjob done there, and what i saw from the other guy who got the black painted bow. Is this bought from PM as well?

The bow pictured above looks real nice! I can't stop picturing it with a custom stock..Wow. I think I prefer it to the faux carbon fiber black out.
