Difference between Matrix 380 and 355

Post by Max-4 »

Hey, I am going to be buying myself a new Excalibur crossbow this winter to hunt with. I had an old Exocet 200 from the 90's that I just retired last year. I have been out of the game for so long and I now love the looks of the new Matrix bows. I am in a toss up between the Matrix 380 Xtra and the Matrix 355 for my new bow. Just by looking at the pictures it looks like the 380 comes with a Monte Carlo cheek piece and vibration dampeners from the factory and the 355 does not, I know they can be added after but I think I'm going to get them anyways so why not just get them brand new? Other than that and the obvious speed difference is there anything else different about them?

Also I know this is going to be a hot potatoe but what are the new Matrix bows like quality and fit/finish wise after this Bowtech buyout? Are they still being manufactured in Kitchener, Ontario? Only reason I ask is Kitchener is my hometown and I used to be very proud of Excalibur and wanted to support them. I have no idea what's going on now a days so please fill me in, thanks.

Both are great choices, but the 380 is a bit more economical since it comes decked out with all the accessories. As for cocking, and shooting, the 355 in my opinion is the best one all around. Plenty of whack, and easy to cock.
Good luck with the decision, either way is the right choice!

The best way to decide is to shoot both side by side and see which one feels right.

Check out the "Matrix Poll Post" asking about your favorite Matrix.... the results may offer some insite as both bows are at the top of the choice list, with one somewhat ahead.

BTW, I voted for that one also  But, am seriously looking at adding the other to the collection. 8)

I have both, the 380 come with all the bells and whisles . the 355 is easy on the legs and back. if you want to set it up like the 380 it will cost about the same.

Here is a weird question, not sure if this is the right term but I'm going to call it a "serving deck". On the 355 it's metal finish and on the 380 it's painted camo. Does that camo paint wear off or flake or mess up once wax is on it?

Its really called the mainframe n we call it the rail. The newer from 2005 on to present have been dipped some completly others the rail is anodized as is the Riser. 380 comes wid REDS ADF the 355 you have to purchase those options. Shouldn't be much wax on the deck from string.

I have the 355. I think it is the best of the line. Very accurate, well balanced.
