Child's first buck
After work yesterday my Son Tyler and I hurried to the hunting club 12 miles from our house and found alot of our family there. My uncle, 2 cousins, and my Father in law. It's firearms season here in N.C. and Tyler had been practicing all summer with his Ruger M77 compact .243 . We've been watching the same buck for about 3 afternoons on the club, but he usually skirts across the road a little too quickly for Tyler to get a solid rest on Him. Well last night Tyler was ready for Him. When we got there, Tyler put the sandbags on the tailgate of the truck and got set up for the shot. I really didn't know if the buck would appear for the fourth time so I pulled out Tyler's homework and began looking at it, when Tyler said " There He is Dad " I looked down the road and sure enough, the buck was standing broadside and I quickly ranged him at 135 yards. I told Tyler to take and deep breath, let half out and squeeze the trigger. When the gun went off, the buck turn into a horseshoe form, Humped up in the mid section and shot his back legs straight out and staggered out of the road. After a short tracking job we foung the buck curled up and barely alive. Tyler quickly finished him off. There was some serious celebrateing at the Daughety residents last night. The deer had the weight of a mature deer but was only a spike. I haven't had this much joy in my life in a long time. I also harvested my first deer at 7 years old, but with a shotgun. I'm a proud Daddy this morning. photos will follow soon.
God Bless !!!!!!!!!

Congrats to Tyler
I know exactly how you feel Ray, I have 3 boys that hunt and there is no better rush than watching them harvest there first deer.
My youngest son shot his first deer this past sunday and I was sitting in the ground blind with him.
I know when he is an old man he will remember that evening with his dad.

Thanks for all of your comments guys. I'll let Tyler read them when we get home tonight. Tyler asked me last night if I thought my Dad would have been proud of Him. My Dads been gone for 10 years, I turned my tearing eyes away and guaranteed him that he would. Little terd made me cry. but it was a good cry. Thanks guys.
God Bless !!!!!!!!!
