Thumb hole
I remember a couple years ago almost everyone hated the thumb hole stocks. I have a Vortex and love it. Seems the new line up of Excalibur bows can be viewed as thumb hole or pistol grip and not the traditional gun stock look and now everyone loves them. If my Vortex ever breaks down I'll look for an older early used model Excalibur. Just spouting off.

Re: Thumb hole
I have to admit I did like the classic stock over the thumbhole on the Exo series. That's why I owned thew Exomax over the Equinox, or the Exocet over the vortex. and the Phoenix, I handled the thumbhole model the first purchase, after that I knew I liked the same bow on the classic stock better.
I have no idea what I would like better on a Matrix, you have to like the thumbhole best on a Matrix because it's your only choice. I like the Matrix better than the Exo series thumbhole, but it has a lot to do with more than the stock, but if they made a redesigned classic stock for the Matrix I may very well like it better.
One point would be I am thinking about upgrading my first year production T/C Omega muzzleloader with the new Knight, It still shoots around 2" to 3" 3 shot groups at 200 yards, but it's old and this would be my last M/L if I do it. They claim after talking to them on the phone more than once, the 27" Mountaineer is the most accurate in their line and you can have either Thumbhole or Classic Laminated. I am leaning towards the 24" Ultra-Lite,, with classic Kevlar stock,,, it just holds and fits better than either of their Laminated wood stocks do,,,, but they let me know I am a minority, 10-1 shooters prefer the thumbhole, and would many times sell an Ultra-Lite if it had a thumbhole, but some buy the Mountaineer just for the thumbhole difference???
We all have different likes and just maybe there would be a demand for a classic style, but if there would be,,,, records prove that most prefer the thumbhole shock on any weapon if given the choice..... even on crossbows, those liking the thumbhole when they have a choice is overwhelming!

Re: Thumb hole
That is one of the most important features to me on any crossbow,,,, convenient and quiet safety operation, and the only two I have found that understand that is Excalibur, and Parker, this is why they are my crossbows of choice. I just prefer the recurve for my hunting style.
But it seems like all the rest don't understand that operating a safety with silence and minimum hand movement is important when you quarry is within 30 yards and many times never seen till they are within 10 yards,,,,

It will be interesting to see what TT comes up with for the 2016 triggers for Excals ADF's and such. Hope its on the lines of the trigger for the Mission crossbows! That would be a home run with the thumbhole or matrix stocks! No more ADF on top of your safety! Time will tell......

I doubt that TT is going to come out with anything new this year for the Excalibur. I hope they continue to make a trigger for us. Now that they have partnered with Barnett/Browning they might ignore everyone else. Only trigger for Excal now on their site is the single stage trigger. No others even listed anymore.

Re: Thumb hole
I still hate the thumbhole stocks. Too hard to access the safety and too easy to cant the bow of you're not careful.

Re: Thumb hole
Yeah the safety is in the perfect spot with the traditional stock, thumbhole not so much . With the exo series bows the thumbhole stocks were an after thought and came along well after the bow was designed . With the new bows its all that is offered .I think excalibur should have redesigned the trigger unit to move the safety to a better location for use with the thumbhole stocks .TPM wrote:I still hate the thumbhole stocks. Re: Thumb hole
I like the thumbhole stocks, and I think the Vortex is one of the best Xcals. made. I would encourage you to shoot a Matrix 330, it would be a very good choice if you couldn't find another Vortex, but that baby should last you forever!Shotnbeer wrote:I remember a couple years ago almost everyone hated the thumb hole stocks. Re: Thumb hole
I prefer the thumbhole over the traditional stock as well. I find it puts my wrist in a more comfortable position when shooting. I've never had an issue reaching the safety with the thumbhole stock as some have mentioned. That being said I don't dislike the traditional stock but do prefer the thumbhole.
Shotnbeer, if you want a new bow you better find another reason to buy one cuz that Vortex is gonna last forever!!
