0.001" vs. 0.003" accuracy??

Post by Rather-B-Huntin »

Black Eagle Executioners and Zombie Slayers are offered in straightness options of 0.001" and 0.003", for a decent significance in price.

How likely am I to notice a difference of 0.002" in bolt straightness? I'm sure the general concensus will be to go with the 0.001" shafts, but how much practical difference can I really expect?

Out to 40 or 50 yards you can't tell the difference. Shooting long distance 80/100 yards go with the 001s.

I shoot routinely at 50 yards, and closer, I cannot tell from one to the other off a bench, free hand, etc.

A hunter who gets the appropriate amount of FOC and lots of helical in the right vanes will see zero difference.

What they all said. I buy the 3's and shoot 1" groups at 40 yds with my Ramcats or Slick Tricks. Good enough for deer hunting.. :D

The whole arrow straightness thing is the biggest sales gimmick the industry has. Look at how many years folks shot port orford cedar with amazing results. Now you have some that claim mediocre accuracy unless you have .001 or straighter carbon shafts? Just how much of a difference will you have in a 16 to 20 inch bolt? Even in the case of vertical bows, most arrow rests have ten thousands play in them. Everyone to their own thing I guess. :?

I don't know about you guys, but I know for a fact that a Poe Lang or an Elcheapo Barnett will kill deer but I ended up buying the best for more money.

I have shot both the .003 and .001 BE arrows since their introduction on this forum and both graded runouts caused my lip corners to raise after pulling my Excalibur trigger using my Black Eagle arrows on deck each and every time at normal hunting ranges.

I suggest buying the best arrow that you can afford. If really tight groups past 80 yards appeal to you I suggest the .001 Black Eagles's, because of the extra value of the .001's can provide at longer distances, if your arrow recipe is detailed and 100% consistent in uniformity.

While on the subject, does anyone sell .003 Executioner bare shafts? I can only find them in .001's.

They are only available in 20" & 22" from Black Eagle direct. I can get them to whatever length you want. I have to cut them however.
