I got a good picture of this canebrake's tail...
And then I got a picture for size reference. Then I put away the camera, picked up the Axiom, and went on to a TALL stand!

Wow, that's a big one!! You know grilled Rattlesnake is pretty good. I came across one half that size while scouting.....tasty little critter.

Yup thats a nice fat one, i haven't saw any here on my place. I used to find them all the time down home n biggens like yers also.

People's jaws drop when I tell them that I catch and RELEASE them on my hunting property... [;

I'm not opposed to killing one for eating it or using the skin to make something, but I don't kill them just "because" like to many others do! I've grown up catching them and keepin' 'em as pets, and also scootin' them on across the road, etc.. But I WOULD eat one if I catch a wild hair.

And to use a flashlight when walking to and from in the dark. I've almost stepped on a few critters that were a lot easier to see than that would be.

For some reason, I always have a fear of walking too close to a deer in the dark. I think I'd probably mess my britches if a large-bodied animal rubbed up against my elbow, or simply hoofed-off from a close proximity of, say, 2 to 4 feet away..

I don't like using a flashlight when getting to my stand, but I WILL try to get there as quick as possible, and if I'm unsure of the crunchies (sticks, branches, leaves, etc..) in my path, I'll stop and shine only when necessary. [=

I do believe that snakes have their place--even the venomous ones. And I agree that some INSECTS are just superfluous.

I hate snakes here in pa archery hunting that is big one there...I have sat in my summit treestand and saw rattlers with birds in their mouths going by ..Also with brook trout while fishing..

Walking in the dark I have had deer snort at me from 10 yards. Thought I was going to mess my pants!! My heart was racing so fast I had to sit down and rest
I have also come within a couple of yards from stepping on a porcupine. Glad I heard it stir at the last minute otherwise my morning might have been ruined before it started!!
