M405 an Swhacker.s

Post by Heavvyduty »

I have been shooting Swhacker.s for year,s.NEVER had a problem with them in my PSE 340fps crossbow .Has anyone used them in a M405 or faster bow.Anyone who uses them would you worry about them opening up with the torque of the stronger bows. :?:

I use swacker 120 grn. 2 1/4" cut in my equinox,
so far they have never failed me.
But I don't think it compares to your M405 :?:

one thing for sure they take no prisnoners

I use them and have not had any problems in my 405. Just make sure the bands are in good shape and tight.

I think a lot of us do. Speed isn't what prematurely opens mechanical broadheads. Acceleration rate is the factor to consider. If you want to determine the relative acceleration rate, take the xbow's draw weight and multiply by the string holding percentage divided by 100. All recurves have a 100 % holding rate and when divided by 100, this results in a value of "1". Compounds all have a let off . Normally this is between 50-80%. For this calculation, use the percent of holding which is 100 - let off . So a xbow with 80% let off , will have 20% holding rate. So a Solution 390 with 155# limbs with 80% let off will have a 20% holding rate which is 31# holding weight.
Now let's compare the initial jolt or acceleration rate between the slightly faster Solution 390 and the M405.
Solution 390 has 155# X .2= 31#s initial force against the arrow
M405 has 290# X 1 .0 = 290#s initial force against the arrow
So, the slightly faster Sol 390 will have only a fraction (1/9 th) the initial jolt against the arrow, and thus tendency to open the expandible blades, as the M405. Speed isn't the determinate, acceleration rate is.

The above is an over simplication but is a good relative guide.

This is why arrow charts for vbows have different arrow spines for the same poundage for stick bows and radical cam bows and wheel bows, etc.

Banding expandible broadheads on recurve xbows is likely a good idea for most of the Expandibles. I use FOCs. I band them with my M380 & 405.

Hey vixenmaster.... do you use extra bands on your swackers when shooting them out of your 405? I am trying to figure out a good broadhead..
