2117's

Post by Shotnbeer »

I shoot carbon but I have some 2117 aluminum arrow's I used years ago with my compound. I shoot a Vortex now and wondered if anyone had a recipe for turning these into crossbow arrows? I'll probably have to have the local archery shop cut them, but I can buy and add inserts, nocks and fletching.
While I'm at it, what broad head would be recommended.
Thanks for the help.

I beleave if you want to shoot aluminum shafts the proper shaft size is 22/64th such as 2219, 2216 ect,
I have never tried a 21/64 OD but it mat not sit at the correct height in the rail for proper string contact and cause a partial dry fire.
I am sure others archers with more knowledge it this area will contribute to the question.

If they were the recommended size why did they stop? Carbon? I have been told 2219/2216 are the correct arrow size.

2117 will be fine, I've made my own carbon shafts over the years using a heavy carbon compound bow arrow such as a Carbon Express Pile Driver. They shot great and I killed a lot of animals with them including my only bear. The only reason I switched to a crossbow arrow was to shoot a lighted nock for hunting
