Im gettin older and love the ladder stand more n more.I hate lugging the climbing aid along with the stand its like taking 4 large things crossbow. Pack and 2 stands

Ladder stands are no good for archery here in pa but great for gun season .But on publicland they will be twisted around tree or hunters will sit near you when they find out your spot..
today you cannot let anyone know your spot...
sad hunters will ruin your hunt ...

Thanks for all the thoughtful replies. I decided to give the X-stand a try; it was cheap enough ($135 delivered) that if I don't like it I will move up to the Viper, and either return the x-Stand or keep it as a spare.

I do already have a cart but for stealth reasons I usually only drag it into the woods when I have a deer to retrieve...

I use to sit on piece of plywood at 18 but those days are gone...You will move up to VIPER but if you do not ever listen to ole sproul GO AND SIT IN VIPER AND THEN SIT IN 180 MAX/GOLIATH/TITAN ..Wear heavy clothes ...Summits are not perfect ,they are not light stand Viper is lighter but for comfort/safety no stand is as good as Summit...

lone wolfs are dream to carry BUT they are not comfortable and cables turn on bark of red oak..

some like stands you can level when you get to 18 ft high another thing that could break ..But not bad idea ..Thru practice you will know how to apply a Summit at bottom of tree to be level when you get to 18 ft ...

Be very careful with cheap climbers they are cheap for reason ..noisy, not comfortable, hard to carry etc...

Me only 1 stand gets on my tree as of now is Summits ..With deer cart I do not care about weight of stand in fact I want the BIGGEST stand in Summit for room etc..I sleep a lot at around 11 am at times and no fear of falling out ...So if you are over 5 ft 11 inchs get the GOLIATH..Under that get VIPER ....I like 180 max so I can face tree in gun season ...

What has 18' got to do with a Summit stand? Afraid of heights maybe?
I hunt from 25' to 30' up unless the foliage keeps me a little lower.

I have a 3 legged stool from Wal Mart that puts me about 1 foot up.
It's very light to carry too.

My first choice is the ground - up close and personal - ....but when I have to use a stand I like a ladder when available. But my public land is waaaaaay back so that X-Stand works great. It's only 11lbs I think.

I bought a TreeWalker about a month ago; they climb nicely, and are significantly lighter than my old API. I'm looking forward to spending some "quality time" in mine in about a month!!

Unreal..49 bucks in 53 years and never had to go above 18 ft most times 15ft is fine..You get to high you will be SKYLINED...But as you said our foliage here in pa you CANNOT get high like you say and really I see no reason too...Also your angle[kill zone] to behind Bucks shoulder gets smaller as you get higher ..Bucks side is 18 /20 inchs higher reduces your kill area way down and that is another reason to stay lower..

I smoke my clothes in front of coffee can with pine needles/oak leaves ..So getting wiff of me at 15 ft does not bother a Buck they smell camp fires all the time ..Actually I have lost more Bucks because a doe smelled my Doe in heat scent not me and let old Mossy horns know something is not right...

I may stop using my doe n heat scent and just go naked...

Afraid of heights not me I see no advantage in 53 years of getting that high and if wind is blowing at -10 degrees that must be a lot of fun back/forth..lol..

With my 50 dollar deer cart using a ladder stand WAYBACK is not bad idea ..But its hard to use ladder stand in archery ..You must leave it for month until Bucks get use to it and hope no one finds your spot or twists it around tree..For gun season they are much better than a climber hands down on that....

With my deer cart idea you can haul in your ladder stand and hide your cart locked to tree..You do not get sweaty/tired carrying in your bow, climber, lunch, your clothes and then throw your Buck on cart, bow on top, climber, your clothes out you go so easy ..

get cart I rec that goes to 500 lbs...real cheap and very good...No more climber on my back or carrying a bow in my hands with my clothes/lunch etc....

without cart and the a holes stealing your stands etc I would not be able to hunt from my stands...ITS THAT CRUCIAL.

Lone wolfs are expensive but not problem with me..The seats are terrible but they made a bigger one now .Problem we had with Lone Wolfs on RED OAKS is the rubber cables got caught in bark ...This is problem in dark at 5am in mornings ..

Lone wolfs are very ice to carry they pack down small vrs the Summits..

BUT if you are going to sit for HOURS ,fall asleep I do that too at times no stand is as good as Summits....

When you are under 50 years old any stand will work over that COMFORT/safety becomes a priority...Summits are best now with my new SD sound deadening system they are made quite..

Only negative to bigger Summits is weight carrying them in /out BUT with cart I do it everyday its easy and I pack in everything ,eat sandwich, thermos, bow on cart and climber ,get to 75 yards from my spot. lock the cart on tree and carry the stuff the rest of way ....SWEAT SYSTEM I have..
