What am I doing wrong?

Post by Opey »

This is the factory string and it will not stop stretching so I have twisted it A LOT. I have only shot around 50 bolts through it and every time I break it out of the case the string is touching the bumpers. Now the string/serving look like it is off center and closer to one bumper. I just ordered a Flemish string and would like to know how to correct this before I put the new one on.
I shoot a Matrix 405.

You need to twist from both sides to keep serving centred. Couple of twists counterclockwise on left limb - then do same on right limb. You may need to untwist it a bunch and start fresh to even it out again. They will stretch for first 100 shots or so. When I put a new string on I cock it and hang it cocked for 5-7 days, this stretches string pretty good.

Can you post a pic of the string n rail ? Use photobucket, servin more on one side or the other isn't a big factor. String stretch on the Factory string is lots of exercise, keep on twistin n shoot the string on in

Thank you for the response! I figured it was something simple. I have only been twisting from the right side, which is the side that is shorter. Finally, what is a tiller?
I tried posting a photo and although it is telling me that it is posted, I don't see it.

It doesnt matter what end you twist the string from, it will stay centered IF it was served centered to begin with and there in no other issue with the bow or string.
You must twist it counter clockwise though.

Twisting from one side will still translate equally to both sides because the string is still one unit. If something is going off center, as Boo said, check your tiller....check the distance between the string and each bumper. They should be equal or VERY close.

You only need to twist from one end (doesn't matter which end) it twists the whole string, not just one side. As the string tightens back up when you remove the stringing aid it will center the string. If you serving is not centered then you need answers to a few questions... was it centered to begin with? Is it installed on the limb tips correctly? Is one end of the string is damaged? Otherwise you have a serious problem that will require warranty service.

This is how you check the tiller? The distance between the string and each bumper and compare both ? Eye ball or measure with verniers? Thanks.

The easiest way to check your tiller is to look at the marks that the latches make on your serving.

The string is quite a bit closer to one bumper.
