Bands for spitfires??

Post by jefrohio »

For the members who use dental bands on the spitfires what size are you using? I need to order some more, the ones I have are dry rotted. it looks as though they have a 3/16 ID. Thanks. Jefro

....a simple "dental bands" in above search bar will yield your answer; anywhere between 1/8"-1/4" depending upon your mechanical BH

Are the rubber bands necessary? I have the regular 100 grain spitfires that I planned on using and heard rubber bands were not needed. Thanks

They say they aren't. And I never used to...

But...

Couple years back now I had a VERY nice whitetail buck, completely unaware of me, at about 50 yards. A brand new 125 grain Spitfire sat in the 380's cradle in front of a Big John Custom BE Executioner. Let her go and the arrow went forward a bit, straight up a spell, then down directly into the dirt 1/2 way between me and the buck. Weird spiral effect.
Man did that fella EVER light out of there (never to be seen again!).

Figured one blade had prematurely deployed upon firing.
Picked up the bands that same afternoon, and never ever had another issue...

New crossbow spitfires will not open on bows to 410fps..The non crossbows ones are little lose they will not open under 350fps BUT i would put 1 dental band on them....No way i would use dental band on crossbow spitfires ..i shot both without dental bands with my micro 335 and both did not open and i shot them both a lot..

we use a drop of cooking oil in screw/clip area so blades open smoothly...

I'm glad I read this. I will put one rubber band on them to be on the safe side.

One more question. I have a bunch of the 1 3/8" Grim Reaper razortips and those open easily by hand. Does anyone rubber band them for crossbow use?

does sound like 1 of your blades did open..been using them from 1996 ...it may be your blade was bumped out a little before you shot .clips hold them in great ..but we never saw blade open because of speed of bow it usually the blade was not into slot correctly just sticking out a little..

we even oil our clips too .....
