rain and deer
Do deer usually bed down during rain days and evenings?
Re: rain and deer
Depends on the amount of rain. If it is a steady light rain I have noticed it doesn't really bother them....in fact they seem to move earlier in the day when its light rain. Down pours with wind....definitely seems to affect them.

Best hunting seems to be in light rain, IMO .

....I have found similar results in light snow on a very cold day when it begins to stick immediately....now if only I didn't move out from behind the tree where I was standing....I would have a monster on my wall!

Re: rain and deer
I like hunting in light rain.
I walked up on a bedded fork horn buck last Sunday.
Too bad I was turkey hunting with the shotgun

If it's raining hard and heavy, when it stops is a great time to be in the woods!
Re: rain and deer
Have killed some of my biggest bucks in the rain... sometimes pretty heavy rain. Same goes for turkey.
Re: rain and deer
Keep in mind that rain washes away a blood trail VERY quickly.
The most important blood trail leads to the Cross...

I've killed a couple nice 8-points hunting in the rain during the rut with my muzzleloader. High wind seems to impact them far more in my area than rain. I seldom see anything up and moving when its windy.

Yes here in pa they will bed down ..when bad weather is coming they go eat after it stops and near dusk or daylight they eat..so to answer your question.before/after a rain..
Re: rain and deer
I "didn't" take a shot this year at a decent buck because it was raining (not pouring, but a good steady rain) and getting dark (low odds of recovery).
I have also seen as many deer this year, while sitting in my stand, on "quite" windy days (which is another condition where the general belief is that it will shut deer down).

With a bow, vertical or crossbow, I do not hunt in the rain. The harder the rain the lower the chance of recovering your deer. Not worth taking the risk. Better days are always ahead, and I do this for enjoyment; agonizing over a lost deer is not enjoyable.

Re: rain and deer
A light steady rain makes deer feel at ease. Hard rain tends to put them down, I think the noise level keeps them on guard and they sit tight. But, just like us, we can play in a light rain but when it pours we hold up too.
