Crossbows loosing poundage over time

Post by longbow joe »

I have a couple wood longbows (no fiberglass) they loose a few pounds strung for a while then seem to gain it back during a "rest". I dont have the ambition or desire to unstring my crossbows for storage but i am curious as to what kinda poundage say a ten year old excaliwould loose if any over a long period?

The bow tech at my local archery shop told me his dad kept his Excalibur strung for five years with no loss in poundage. I wouldn't go to such an extreme. I keep mine unstrung through the summer months. Too much heat and too many chiggers at my near-by WMA range!

I have a Palmer White Tail Classic recurve vbow. 15 years old at least. Never left unstrung (laminated carbon limbs). 51# the entire time. Hasn't lost a #.
