Is it hard or recommended to take the trigger assembly out and clean maybe? Even though it cant be that dirty... Is it hard to do? Just kinda weird it all of a sudden wont hold the string back all the time

I 'd say it would be more prudent you give Excalibur Customer Service a call with this problem you are experiencing.

Absolutely. I would go as far as saying, do not shoot or cock your bow until you talk to them.

Is the latch catching the string and holding it till you get the cocking rope off or not holding it at all and when you let pressure off the cocking rope it is catching on the ADF?
If the last make certain you are cocking with the safety in the off position. The latch will not catch the string if it is on safety. Also make certain the rope is in its cocking groove cause often the latch will not catch if it is out of the groove.

Been there, done that.

Ive shot the bow alot and there is no problem with me cocking it, the saftey is in the OFF position and the cocking rope is in the groove under the saftey. The latch catches the string and when you ease the pressure off the cocking rope it goes off and hits the anti dry fire. I almost have all the pressure off the cocking rope and booom!

Since joining this forum 10 ago this is the first of this kind of trigger unit failure problem that I have heard of.

If you have a safe place away from children and are able to cock it can you cock it overnight and come back and inform us what you found in the morning.

I agree with the others suggesting contact with Excalibur.

I dont want to mess with it at all but when you have a hunt 2 days away you kinda want your only crossbow working, no way they can fix it in that short time. Im going to bring it to the bow shop where i bought it at and see what they say. But i WILL contact Excalibur tomm.

Sounds like an unusual issue. When the trigger is not latched how does the trigger feel? Does the trigger return on its own or does it drag? How long has it been doing this? Does it do it all the time? Could be as simple as debris in the trigger linkage. Give us a call to discuss.

My Exomag did this a few years back and I could see a small blue or green piece of plastic? floating around. Excalibur repaired it no charge and even paid return postage

Try pushing trigger gently forward before cocking.
Either way I would send to be serviced ASAP. I wouldn't want to have it latch and then release later when I have my bolt in or any other circumstance when it can cause damage.
