1st time fletching in 15 years

Post by OldWolf »

First I wanted to thank everyone on here as I've used the search feature often and you guys have been very helpful !
I haven't fletched an arrow in probably 15 years or so. Back then I was using an Ar EZ Fletch, Fletch Tite and I had a Mathews Q2. So using the EZ Fletch Bolt was no problem except on the first one - I forgot to ease up when closing the fingers.
Here's a picture and I'm calling them !

ArcheryAddict I agree with your entire post. Many years ago I became hands on in all my hobbies. The first time I had to have some arrows refletched I was told it would be a few days, they only had whatever kind/color vanes and the cost. I learned how to do it myself. The first time the serving went on the Q2 it was the same scenario. Wait a week for them to reserve it, wax and lubricate the wheel and cam. Then be charged high dollar. I saved and bought a bow press for my basement and learned. The same with my ammo. For the shotgun I reload pheasant shot, buckshot and slugs. I also reload for my 9 and 45.
Part of it is about saving but more is about placing the shot where I want it. If I do my part hopefully I won't be tracking all night and it will be a quick kill. I'm rambling. Thanks once again.

.....Oh really! Everybody has already decided on how his Presidency will turn out! As an ArcheryAddict be thankful Hillary isn't in the WH...otherwise you would need to have registration numbers on each arrow and report those numbers to the federal government....the animal activists would determine that hunting needs to cease....and on and on the liberal left snowflakes would keep pushing things....

.....Boy it was refreshing to say Merry Christmas again to everyone I saw!

Thanks guys. I have to admit I was a bit forgetful so I used the search feature. Once I started prepping things it came back to me.
So I took the 4 recently fletched "Make America Great Again" Diablo arrows and weighed them. They were within a grain of each other. They varied, with the 150 grain field points, from 406.6 thru 407.4. I'll call it 407 grains. I then wanted to check the FOC. Using the online calculator and FT's (not BH's) it came out at 16.66%. I realize the FOC might change when I install BH's but it shouldn't be much (?). Any thoughts on the FOC being good, light, etc.? I'm shooting them from a Grizzly.
EDIT :
I just removed the nocks. I just installed the Lumenoks. So my total arrow weight is now 416 grains. My FOC is now 17.56%.

I guess I cannot use the quote in jest. No matter what I do the picture will not come up now. All my other pictures work (?).

I agree I thought that it was going down as well. I did everything the same as I did the first time. I do know all the numbers changed after installing the lighted nocks. The overall length changed. The length to the balancing point changed. The Lumenok added roughly 1/4" to the length.
I was using the calculator at archerycalculator.com. ??? I have not chrono'd the speed yet.

Update :
I just carefully rechecked each of the 4 arrows for FOC ... several times.
The FOC (using archery calculator) is 16.66%. I must have made a mistake in my measurements previously .. getting old. Thanks AA !

I had another thought when measuring for the FOC calculator. I should have installed the Lumenoks prior to fletching. Now the fletching has a 1/4" difference from future refletching. When I do the rest of the arrows this week I will install the Lumenoks first so everything remains uniform.

ArcheryAddict thanks for all the help. I was thinking I will fletch all with the Lumenoks that way any future refletching would be the same. It's tough for me to do anything right now as I have a tear in my rotator cuff and a bone spur there as well. Hopefully I can get some more arrows done in the next few days.
Here's a couple of pics :

FWIW - I use Lumenocks but when I fletch my arrows each shaft gets the same regular plastic nock to keep the vane setback consistent from arrow to arrow. I see no change in POI when using weight matched plastic nocks or the longer but equal weight Lumenock.
