Sighting in New Scope
Sighting in New Scope
What is the best way to sight in a new Hawke XB30 Pro on my Matrix 350?

Use the scope turrets to get a perfect zero at 20yards. Off a solid rest on the bench of course.
Go to 40yards and put a small spot to shoot at near the very top of the target. Use your 20yard center crosshairs to shoot at that spot. Your arrow will hit low. Once you've shot the arrow, and you see it's low, put your 20yard mark back on the spot you were aiming at and turn your speed dial (which is the variable power magnification) until your 40yard hash mark is on your shot arrow that hit low. You should now be setup and can do any fine tuning as you work your way out all the way to 100yards if you like. I watched Comfybear Lou set his up at Boofest last summer and was impressed how quickly and easily that scope got out to 100yards.

You're only paranoid if everyone isn't out to get you.

Good information there but not exactly what I was initially looking for. Is there a way to bore sight the scope so my first shot does not miss the target all together? Your way sounds like a great idea but I got to get the 20 yard mark set first!
Re: Sighting in New Scope
Take your first shot at 5 yards if you think that you may miss your target.

Make the 1st shot at 10 yards with the setting on "20". Adjust the turrets to hit the bullseye. Go back to 20 and readjust.
Secondly, with a 60 yd scope, I'd refine the 60 yard impact point. With a 100 yard scope, I do my final speed adjustment at either 80 or 100 yards. Then, theoretically, all others "should" fall into place.

I an with Sew on this one. I always start at 10 yards and have not had any problems being in the target. I was hitting about 1/4" high at 10 with my 350 and when I went to 20 it was dead on.

Many thanks. My son said I should lay a laser pointer in the rail and then adjust the reticle as needed.

You are over thinking this. Didn't you setup your last scope too? The process as descibed above, start at 10y is just fine. No need for lasers!VAhuntr wrote:Many thanks. My son said I should lay a laser pointer in the rail and then adjust the reticle as needed.
I just removed my scope and adjusted the HHA scope base forward to get slightly more eye relief and all I had to do at 20y was adjust 4 clicks left. I did take my first shot at 10y to be safe.
