String Jig Done; Pic Added
I recently bought an adapter for my welder to weld aluminum and with my string in need of reserving, I welded up a multi purpose jig out of aluminum tubing I had. It's adjustable, so it can hold all 3 size strings to serve them and added an arrow indexer off to one side. My camera and computer aren't getting along right now, so I can't post pics, but I will once I resolve the issue.

The center vertical rail is moveable, in the pic it can be used to index arrows or it can be moved to the left to accommodate any of the 3 string sizes. I am still debating whether I will use a pin system or weld tabs to secure it at the various lengths.

Looks good!
You can use a joiner piece and threaded rod for shorter strings.
You will need a weight to hang on your shaft to help find the spine. http://images.lancasterarchery.com/medi ... 0001_2.jpg

I'm just making my weight hanger up today and yes a tread joiner would do the trick as well rather then relocate the center bar. I have read the between 2.5 and 3lbs is ideal for weight on the arrow, would you agree?Boo wrote:Looks good!

Short stiff crossbow arrows you may want more weight. I made mine 5 i believe.

So there's no set weight, I can basically add what I need to get a decent amount of deflection to measure the shafts then?newbie wrote:Short stiff crossbow arrows you may want more weight. I made mine 5 i believe.

Very nice setup . I use about 3 1/2 # for mine seems to work good for my purpose . I also went to a 1/2 " threaded rod for my hooks for my string jig .

I see you must be new to welding aluminum ,,Practice,, Practice ... Other wise looks good ...
Re: String Jig Done; Pic Added
Yep, that's the first piece I've ever MIG welded, in aluminum, typically it's race car chassis. It's also MIG not TIG, so it's not as clean looking.rein1 wrote:I see you must be new to welding aluminum ,,Practice,, Practice ... Other wise looks good ...
