Rock licks

Post by Micro.slayer »

Did everyone get their Rocks (mineral) licks out! It's getting hot and humid! Lots of rain here in Pittsburgh! Those racks should be growing an inch a week ! By now!

i dont use the rock licks. i use the mineral that i just mix in the dirt and the deer start hammering it and digging holes as soon as the snow melts. when late summer gets here the activity at the sites slack off considerably

I keep salt blocks out all year and the deer hit them pretty hard, salt licks are legal here in Missouri, you can hunt over them, but cannot hunt over anything with grain in it .

I would never put out mineral licks since it is not legal here.
But I have lots of does hitting the spots where I "accidently" spilled some mineral in front of my cameras earlier this spring.

Does everyone realize once the velvet comes off. That the chance of Deer going to a lick of minerals is not very good.

I always put my mineral salt of in Jan. or Feb. every year and they start hitting it good pretty fast. The does need the extra minerals when their fawns are coming and then the bucks start hitting it pretty well once they drop their antlers. But I have seen them still hitting licks into gun season a few times over the years though it has been yearling bucks usually. But for the most part I agree that they do not use them a lot in the fall of the year.
