Great day in the woods

Post by elkaholic »

Food plots all done. Stands all checked and moved, repaired, camo'd., brushed in.

Saw 3 bucks while we were working, all fair sized .
Cameras showing at least a couple shooters 8 pts.

Went out fishing for rest of the afternoon. 25 + in a couple hrs. Both large mouth and smallies up to 3 lbs., fishing a couple hundred yrds of one shoreline. All caught on a wacky worm, sweet potato, tossed to shore and timber piles.

Temperatures in the low 70's, slightly overcast, light breeze.

Doesn't get much better, only thing missing .

Musky in the net!!

Time to make sure crossbow is all ready to go and sighted in.

August should be awesome!!!

7 weeks till deer season!!

I need to call the land owners up and see if we still have permission to hunt! The land could be sold at any moment.
I have to get out a shoot a few arrows too. Archery opens Sept-18 here in WI.
We sure could use some rain down here in the southern part of the state.

Yea ...I'm starting to get my mind on hunting too.
Saw a dandy buck yesterday in my hunting area just driving by.
Still enjoying summer l have no problem with the heat just don't like being in the direct sun working as long as I'm in a little bit of shade.
I actually enjoy all the preparation as much as the hunt itself. (It's like wrapping your own Christmas presents up for a month ahead) my best explanation!

Had a dry start to the summer. Rain came a few weeks ago and we are slowly coming out of the drought. Bear baiting started here a couple days ago. Only 2 months till our Archery Deer Season! Been working in the garden, processing meat birds for the freezer, finishing food plots and shooting the Excaliburs every chance we get. Corn is 6ft tall and I am very glad to see it doing so well. Been training our hound Jake and thanking the Lord for all of our blessings. Hoping everyone is well and your enjoying your preseason rituals.
Take care

Saw this guy 20 yards from my stand tonight. Not a shooter for me but definitely a good sign.

He has a tall buddy in front of him....more good sign.
Very tempting to shoot a buck like this but I'm aware of much better bucks, with only one tag ...must use discipline.
