Hooks up or down
My suppresser 400 has the ext charger to cock the bow. On it the hooks come up from below the string. After I bought my axe 340 which came with a rope cocker, I've always put it on string going down from the top. I haven't noticed any difference at all. I jwas just wondering, is there a right way or does it matter?

Re: Hooks up or down
They now recommend hooks up and the new Charger EXT Crank has the hooks up too.

Hooks up let's the operator see that the string is securely held by the hooks, especially creating confidence when seeing full string engagement before your decoking.

Re: Hooks up or down
Hooks underneath for the reason that Norm stated. If you put the hooks on top of the string and it gets away on you, you'll quickly look at your body parts and switch the next time you use the cocker. I've broken a hook and one handle. Some guys have damaged their bows and scopes as well as changed their underwear.

Had a hook break on an old C2 I have. Trust me, it can cause a strong man to have a "flutter" in his lower region!!!

Re: Hooks up or down
If a hook were to explode, I believe there is less chance of catching some shrapnel in the eye with the hooks up. Until I got my 400TD, I always rope cocked with the hooks down. After seeing the power these limbs store, it gives one pause as to how strong each piece has to be. Now I'm fully hooks up.

Re: Hooks up or down
It’s not about breakage. It’s about not having the hooks fully engaged on the string.

Re: Hooks up or down
In the olden days, it was hooks down. That's when using a rope cocker was in it's infancy. As users became more knowledge the switch was made. The primary reason for hooks up is that the string naturally creates a "downward" force on the rail. By using the hooks up it improves engagement of the string into the hooks. Either way works, but "hooks up" it somewhat advantageous.

Re: Hooks up or down
That makes sense! The other way then lifts the string and reduces the force to the rail, and puts it on the plastic hooks?ComfyBear wrote: ↑Tue Dec 07, 2021 7:13 pmIn the olden days, it was hooks down.
