Sights on the Excalibur

Post by Hi5 »

I recently bought a used Exomax, used but in real clean shape. I started to mount the front fibreoptic sight, but I stripped the head of the screw.

The cure was quick in coming when I phoned Excalibur. Apparently in the process of anodizing the riser, sometimes the material gets into the threads and this causes the screw to bind. Replacement screws (free) are already enroute, so that is no problem. I chased the threads with a tap I already had, so the problem is solved.

It did get me thinking, though. I'll bet that few people are using fibroptic sights. I'll bet the vast majority are using a scope, or else Excalibur would be making sure that those threads are clean. So, here's my poll. How many of you use a scope? How many use fibreoptic or other sights?

I had a Tasco on my first Wolverine, a dropzone on my Vixens and a maxzone on the Emag and Exocet. I now use varizone scopes on all my Excals. :D 8)

Both!
I am in the process of setting up a 2X red-dot "scope" with a ghost ring back-up sight to use with the f/o front. Got the ghost ring today and mounted it. Managed to shoot a 2" group at 25 yards with it, so it passed the test  Still waiting in the red-dot to arrive.

varizone only-drop zone on another one. I have used most of the sighting methods available. The varizone is the best.

I just can't bring myself to put an optical device on a bow or muzzle loading gun. It just seems to detract from the simplicity, reliability & challenge for some reason. Before anyone gets defensive, I have no problem with others doing so :o). Bowhunting is a very personal thing, like religion, and folks practice it in their own way:o). I actually tried a red dot last season & it bugged me. I think the one shortcoming of Excal bows is the sights. They are very poor. I wound up machining a front sight using a TFO (tritium fiber optic) sight pin and machining a rear peep from 6061 aluminum, that uses standard lyman/williams apertures. I shoot these sights better than that @#$%& red dot and I'm comfortable with it :o). Just my dos..
