Any suggestions on a crossbow rest from a sitting position.

Post by Whyitsmike »

Hello Again everyone, it's just me again trying to pick your brains. As some of you know I use a wheelchair to get around and have limited use of one of my hands. And I have been trying to figure out something to use to hold the crossbow while I shoot. Currently it's a card table, along with a tarp rolled up and rubber banded together that I lay my crossbow on. I'd hold it regular but because I have no balance from my chest down I need to use a rest. I went and purchased a pretty decent tripod today, but now the mounting or stabilizing the crossbow has me baffled. I'm still shooting my Commando for the time being, but I keep checking my mailbox daily for the Vixen my good friend Gary L has already shipped. And although accuracy is my primary objective, I would like to be safe and take care of my crossbows and not damage them in any way, especially my Vixen. Any suggestins would be most welcome. And Thanks to everyone who have been so helpful in answering my questions and taking the time to explain things to me.
Especially Gary L, Gary Jr, Mr Wabi, Beaver, and countless others. You guys are really great, and I will let you know as soon as I get the first shot off.

If I understand correctly, you've mounted the Commando to the tripod?

If that is done via some adapter screwed in place of the sling swivel stud, maybe it will work on the Vixen as well?

Sorry if that makes no sense. I'm a visual type person - It's hard to figure things out when I can't see them. :D :D

What about attaching a front grip to your vixen, I have done that to mine.
Oh by the way you will love the vixen :D .

I bent a piece of tubing at a right angle 90 degrees. First flatten it out on one end and drill a couple of holes on that part to mount to the xbow where the quiver holder would mount ( you can still mount the quiver holder atop of this, if you want to). Now get you a wooden dowl cut to the length you need and insert it inside the handle you made.

This will give you support for the xbow vertically, but the horizontal movement is up to you. Just an idea :idea: .

I wrapped the tube handle in pipe insulator foam and camo tape.

The main reason I did this was to keep my hand,thumb,etc. below the string travel and to steady my shot offhand.

Ten point has what is called a steadyeddy that goes on the fore end of their new cross bows. I do not know if this could be adapted for an Excal, but if it did fit I think this may be your ticket.

Cabelas has a page of bipods and shooting sticks that can be adapted to your xbow.

Huntman,

Yes sir it is made all with PVC;

I have 2 of them one for shooting from and the other to hang my Yellow Hammer target bag from.

For the rest I just bent out the "Y" hook and for hanging my target bag I just screwed in 2 of the "c" hooks.
