Coyote got away...

Post by Herbinator »

Here's a little update on my little yote hunt. He got away  He never showed Thursday or Friday. You could sure hear them at night though! Some friends and I shot a bunch of gophers Saturday afternoon to use as bait. I set up in the evening about 25 yards from the bait and waited...and waited...and waited.... Nothing! My brother inlaw will now shoot him  Oh well, it was worth a try. Thanks to the guys who gave me some pointers.

PS The new Phoenix has made believers out of my bow hunting buddies. BJ may have some new clients.

I think alcohol abuse for me was Saturday night. I was so drunk I couldn't even walk. Everytime I stood up I fell over.

Those coyotes are wily. Excellent eyesight, hearing, and smell, get'em next time.

Herbinator when I use to hunt yotes in Nova Scotia I use to use a rabbit distress call and it worked great. What I would do was take a white rag for the winter, tie some fishing line to it and hang it over a branch of a small bush so that the rag was touching the ground. Then I would use the call and I would pull on the fishing line to get the rag to move up and down slightly. The yote would here the call and then see the movement then come in close enough to shoot. My hunting partener and I tried it out here and we had a couger come in.

Maritimer,

That is a great idea!! I will definately try that later this week. My borther inlaw said all the gophers we used as bait are gone, so the yotes are still in the area. He kind of only gave me a week to use the crossbow.... Hopefully he hasn't shot them all before I get a chance to use your technique. We're branding on Saturday so he's bringing his calves in and doesn't want the yotes around. I'll let you know how it goes.

Tye

Know yor limits! Your right, we've all probably been there when we were your age, but this isn't the place to be bragging about it. Have you decided on a new crossbow yet, or are you keeping your Vixen?

I'm definately buying the Pheonix, just don't know where, or when.

I didn't think I was bragging about anything... :?
