Broadhead target ?? for exomax users

Post by terry-1 »

I talked my friend into buying a excalibur since he got a handicap crossbow permit from his doctor to shoot a crossbow this fall. He was buying a horton and I let him shoot my exocet 175lb a few times and that was all it took. Well this weekend he shows up with the Exomax I should have knew what to expect from him as he does shoot a 300mag rifle for these 150lb deer here. I told him that was alot of cbow for just whitetail deer but to each his own I said so we took it to my range to shoot. The Exomax has some kind of power with the heavy carbon bolts we were shooting it was pushing the bolts almost through my bag target I have never seen anything push a bolt or arrow so far in before. Once sighted in we screwed on some 100gr G5 motecs and took aim at my brand new morrell yellow jacket broadhead target. The bolts burried past the fletchings in the target. Now for you exomax users what kind of broadhead target do you use to stop your bolts when praticeing with broadheads?

I bought a McKenzie crossbow target (foam-layered) from Cabela's. Haven't had a bolt go thru it yet, and you can shoot at all four sides. Only drawback, it is a bit on the small side, but I do get 2" groups at 50yds, so I guess it doesn't matter...
Oh, and let me add, if you want to get a bolt puller, talk to bj, he makes his own, and they work very well.

:D :D This one works for my maxhttp://www.fieldlogic.com/Block_Which%2 ... %20you.htm
but if you use SLICK TRICK heads you dont need to practice , they fly just like field points ( no tuneing reqd.)

I didn't have a chance to look at or try any targets before I bought one and ended up buying the Morrell Yellow Jacket also. Only cost me $50 Canadian. But does not stop the bolts before the fletching. Also using slick tricks on one side alot, it causes pieces to eventually fall out. I would like to try the Block Crossbow target but it is very expensive for me to purchase (shipping is a killer) so I will do with what I have now.

Check out this website. I have been trying to shoot up one of the Rineharts (18 to 1) with broadheads for two years now and am failing miserably. I tried the rest and now use the best. Give it a try, it will be the last target you buy for a very long time. Stops arrows dead and they pull out real easy.

You will NOT shoot through this one. Be aware that it a broadhead target ONLY.

If you shoot a field point into it it will take 2 men and a boy to pull it back out.

You can order direct from the factory.

Tell them Woody sent you...

John - Give Bromley Industries in Bradford Ontario a call at 905-775-4416. They carry the Rinehart targets. Good luck sir, if you get your hands on an 18 to 1 you are really going to be happy with it.

I spoke to Bromley and they dont carry the Rhinehardt 18 to 1 Broadhead Target.
They offered me a Morrell Yellow Jacket as a compromise, I said no thank-you.

anyone use a homemade target?

i was thinking of using 2, 2x8" boards with 4 threaded rods to form a square. then put 2 layers of burlap on one side to keep the stuffing in. then put in stuffing, foam, ect and then staple on front burlap. then tighten down the nuts on the threaded rods to compress the stuff and then tighten the burlap.

i think it will work but i dont know what to use for stuffing. it needs to be able to stop a bolt from an exomax but i also want it to be easy to pull out the bolt.

will the compression make it hard to pull the bolt out?

thanks

I used the Crossbow version of the Block last year for Broadheads and field tips with my Exomax. Usually from 10 yards and further, sometimes a 5 yard decocking shot with a field tip. I have never had a pass through, or had one go past the fletching. I use one of those rubber arrow pullers and they come out with one hand.....

Woody and DJH

I found both the Crossbow King and the Rhinehardt 18-1 Targets.
I can get both here now, thank you. However the price difference is extremely far apart. The 18 to 1 targets are almost 4 times the price.

Thanks for the info.

I found that Monsons Sporting Goods is the supplier in Ontario.
Wont sell to the public, so they gave me two disributors who will.
Both in southern On. One is Grimsby Tackle, the other is Fishing world
in Hamilton. They dont have in store but only takes two days to get them.
