rail lube substitute?

Post by grndhntr »

Hi guys, Got a question about rail lube. The only stuff I can find locally is Tenpoint lube- a little tiny tube for $9. OUCH!! Seems like there should be some kind of easily found lube that works well for lubing the rail, something that you could find at your local grocery or hardware store. I thought about Crisco or Aqua Seal or something similar. Has anyone successfully used a rail lube substitute? Thanks. Grndhntr

I use this for both the string and rail. (Excalibur string and deck wax)

Ordered it from Archer's Nook, don't recall the cost but it wasn't $9.

Parathyn wax/ mineral oil? Where do you get these and how do you mix them? Heat them and mix? Do you mean paraffin wax, like for candles or canning? Thanks!

I use bowstring wax on my serving and use my own secret blend of high tech lubricant/metal protector on the rail, bolt heads, and anything else it gets on  I use a sheepskin pad well saturated with the lube to apply it to crossbow, guns, knives, and about anything that needs lubed or rust preventative. The secret formula is merely beeswax and neetsfoot oil blended about 50/50. Makes a great MZ bullet/patch lube, too

rali lube

I also only use string wax. I find it keeps the rail slipping just fine.
I think it matters more how much you wax the string.

I was told something similar by the owner of a bowshop. He uses Three-in-One oil.
