toronto plane crash
hope every one is safe ... 200 + on board
I hope everyones okay as well. The pictures look like it was a bad crash...
Here's the story:
TORONTO - A passenger jetliner erupted in flames Tuesday after skidding off a runway while landing in a fierce thunderstorm at Toronto's Pearson International Airport. Black smoke billowed into the air as the wreck burned.
Police said the plane was an Air France A340 from Paris that was trying to land when it ran into trouble. There was a storm - with lightning and strong wind gusts - in the area at the time.
A row of emergency vehicles lined up behind the wreck, and a fire truck sprayed the flames with water. The operation was broadcast live on television in Canada and the United States.
The flaming ruin was next to the four-lane Highway 401, Canada's busiest highway, and some cars and trucks stopped on the roadway after the crash.
There was no immediate word on casualties.
"They made an approach in weather that was worse than what they anticipated," John Wiley, a retired Airbus pilot, told CNN.
Leah Walker, a radio reporter in Toronto, said she saw a third of the plane fall and that the rest became a fireball. "This plane attempted to land in some very fierce weather we had today," she said.
Thunderstorms create the possibility of wind shear, the sudden, dangerous air currents that can dash an airplane to the ground as it takes off or lands.
The last major jumbo jet crash in North America was on Nov. 12, 2001, when American Airlines Flight 587 lost part of its tail and plummeted into a New York City neighborhood, killing 265 people. Safety investigators concluded that the crash was caused by the pilot moving the rudder too aggressively.

I work about 3 blocks from the crash site & we heard about it seconds after it happened.......we could see HUGE clouds of BLACK smoke....I got into my van & drove down the street towards the crash site...was able to get in behind an industrial mall overlooking the crash site.....I climbed up on an old abandoned front end loader & had a pretty good view of everything......couldn't see the main fuselage as it was in the ravine but the tail section was plainly visable......flames were shooting 100-200 feet into the sky with thick clouds of black smoke before the first firetrucks arrived..........I had my binoculars & I could see people scrambling across the field towards the 401.........it was a horrific site & I still cannot believe that there were no fatalities!!!!!!!! I usually always have my digital camera in the van with me, but the wife borrowed it afew days ago & it was still sitting at home..............figures........anyway, that was one planeload of VERY LUCKY people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If I can't hunt & fish in heaven....then I don't want to go!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently they rounded all the passengers up and made them go through customs before they could see their family members. I think that's what the passengers were complaining about. I can just hear it now "Do you have your passport with you, do you have anything to declare"? "Ya that bag of ashes at the end of the runway".chris4570 wrote:I heard some guy complaining on how the folks at Pearson handled the accident. My comment to him: Be grateful you're alive!!
