I came over to Canada a few months ago, and will soon be living in a new home with three acres or so of land...mostly wooded! I recently made inquiries about varmin conyrol on my own land, and was told that I wouldn't need a licence for that, and could deal with almost any "critters" except deer & moose. I was going to buy a crossbow, but I'm not sure how I stand with the law etc. The information I got regarding varmin control on my own land came from the proper source, and I have it in writing. But I want to know if I can buy a crossbow now, and use it on my own land without having to get any sort of licence? I know I would have to get licenced to "hunt" with the bow ( maybe sometime later) but for now I just want to target shoot, and control any problem critters. I should mention that I come from England, and have no experience of shooting, except with air rifles as a young man.
I intend to take the required courses for licencing firearms in the coming months but, for now, I just want to use a bow on my land. I like what I have seen written on this forum with regards to excalibur bows, and will probably go with the exorcet, if I am alowed to buy one. Could any of you guys advise me...I would welcome any help you can give.
I'm a new member (today) and don't know much about the subject, so please excuse my ignorance. I'm a responsible 58 year old retired guy, and want to make sure I'm on the right lines. Hope to hear from some of you soon,
Many thanks,
Grizzled!
