Nocks?

Post by oneshot 1 »

Why are you not to use Half Moon Nocks? I've always used them and find them accurate.

Here is group at 30 yards. Now this is with just sight pin,not a scope.

Those 1/2 moon nocks are made for xbows that have a latch that grabs thestring from the bottom. Excalibur grabs the string from the top so that 1/2 moon is not needed. The Excal string can sometimes jump the bolt if you accidently put the non cock vane in the track causing the moon to be in the wrong position and cause a partial misfire. This is why Excalibur discourages their use.

Oneshot,

I use half moons on my Exocet. I had them recommended to me by two different competition shooters, one of whom shoots a Pheonix. Though I'm not sure that at my skill level they make a noticable difference.

That's a nice average Excalibur group  !

From "The Source", the Excal site

http://excaliburcrossbow.com/faqs.html#Nock

Shouldn't there be a nock on Excalibur arrows?

The bow is designed to use a flat butt ended arrow. Your options are either to use a plug type insert which cannot be used to withdraw the arrow from a target in which it has sunk too far, or a CAP insert which can. Moon nocks are a no-no since they are totally without purpose and can direct the string under the arrow if you don't align them correctly. Being of the mind that purpose is of more importance than appearance, we continue to use CAP inserts.
