possible string problem....

Post by Xring »

I noticed that the serving on my string that came with my Exomax is starting to fray a little. Is this normal wear and tear, as I've only shot my bow about 20 to 30 times. I've got another string that came with my acessory kit that I was saving for a spare, should I go ahead and switch out?

From what I've read on the forum it appears that the Exomax is hard on strings.

Where is the fray occuring on the string? Is it the serving?

yea, what I'm calling the serving is the winding around the center of the string that is caught by the trigger mechanism and propels the bolt. I'm not sure which is causing the damage because it is very close to the center of the serving.

If your string is just starting to fray, I would wax the string and rub it in with a piece of leather to melt the wax in and make the string and serving last longer. Do this every 20 to 30 shots and the string will last for a hundred or more shots on a Max before it needs replacing.

Check your rear  inserts on your bolts and smooth them off a little as nutten in the center of the hooks/claws to cause wear.... :D

Hi I had the same problem with mine but the strings had 2 wear points on them. It was caused by the string making contact with the square edges of the riser. The shop lightly sanded the edges and suggested to keep the brace height on the tight side of the 2nd scribe mark (closest to the string) and this cured the problem. Worth a shot because it is annoying for the strings to fall apart with only 30 shots from them. I was not very happy to say the least, but no questions getting new strings (2) at no cost. Good luck hope this helps.

I think they 2 claws that hold the string cocked back, tend to wear the string a bit also....
