These wasps are like blackbirds... they're taking over. They were horrible in Canada this year too

Bee Stings etc. (First Post)

Post by John Wade »

The last couple of weeks I've met more people stung by bees, yellow jackets, and hornets then ever before. My son had one walking about his head in the grocery store of all places. (Flick - Stomp - Many Stares from otherwise unaware shoppers). By the way, my brother and mother are allergic in the same way and carry around one of those "anti-venom pens". Not only are they expensive, they tell me that they are supposed to only have a one year shelf life, so you should buy a new one every year. Ask your pharmacist though as I don't want you to spend $100.00 or whatever for one if what I'm told is wrong. Especially when it might be invested in some cool but likely unnecessary hunting or fishing accessory. :)

Glad you're OK.

My wife is allergic to a lot of stuff, she was even flown in a chopper once :-(
So I know what you're talking about.

Definetly have the medication with you. BTW, I don't know what they
told you in the hospital - the drug in epi-pen (epinephrine/adrenalin)
can wear off in about 30 min, so you should head straight to a hospital
after the injection.
If you're far in the woods it's a good idea to have 2 injectors, not one.

Also it's easier said than done - do not panic! As with snake bites runnning
only speeds up the intoxication as you so rightfully pointed out.
